@davidnjoku , or anyone with info, I wondered if I might ask you a question. Some friends of mine here in Canada, Black friends, have been complaining since the pandemic started of the poor fit of regular N95 masks, because of the nosepiece being designed for white people.

It occurred to me, as I was looking around to see if anyone had a solution to this gap in the local market, that someone familiar with things in at least one part of Africa might have a good idea of whether such a thing exists. My friends have said they'd pay to import masks that actually work properly, so as to reduce their risk of long Covid.

Do you know of any products like this, made for more African (or Asian) facial features?

I don't know who on my followers list might need this info, but this is so awesome I couldn't help but share. The company is Reframd (https://www.reframd.com), and they make racially diverse eyeglass frames to fit faces other than the "default" white man or woman.

I realise anyone who needs the link probably already knows about it, but on the off chance anyone might find it useful, I pass it along. I just love to see companies come along who see gaps in the market, and work to fill them with good products - like trans-owned binder makers, or Black-owned frame-makers. Money goes back into the community, people get stuff that suits them better, it's a huge win-win.

Yes, a hundred times better would be the big chains doing this. I've never noticed a "Black faces" section in any chain frame store. More power to Reframd.

@Impossible_PhD and/or @JoscelynTransient , a question for you or anyone else with info: are there any studies which talk about the effect on health outcomes of repeated self-outing during hospital visits? Does that make sense?

I'm trying to make the argument to a committee at the local hospitals that doing it once is a lot better for health outcomes than having to do it every time someone comes into the room. That coming-out is a stressful process every time, due to Schroedinger's Transphobe, and that this is bad for people.

I know for a bunch of you you're too old to be my kids (check yourself: my kids range in age from 35 to 38), but nonetheless I feel like a proud mama so much of the time around here. Seeing so many of you blooming right before me, flailing prettily at the idea that you're anywhere near as hot as you are. I recognize it cause i live it, my dears.

I don't have a point to make, just wanted to say that. I think I may have settled into the role of elder, after all. But, hey, elder with a much-younger boyfriend (he's only 44 - 13 years younger!). So not totally lost to the dust of time yet.

Joining this community was one of the best choices I've ever made. I feel enormously lucky to have come into community at last.

Hate having to do this again. I'm sorry to be coming to you when I'm short, but it's like this: November and December were both very short of work for me. No work means no money. I have my disability cheque, but that's used up with the rent and food and bills already. Unfortunately, it did not stretch to enough food to last the month.

So here I am, mid-month, and I'm out of food. This seems to me a suboptimal place to be. So I wonder, my friends, if you feel you could manage to help me out a bit?

I have some math on this, and I believe CAD100 would do the business - keep me fed until the 31st, when my next cheque comes. At most, with CAD200, I'd be able to get a small supply of pain-relieving weed too, but the food is more important.

We have really got to stop coddling fascists. So many times recently, I've heard people saying "Oh, we can't do that, the right wing will react really badly!"

Newsflash: they were going to do that anyway.

It's all fucking performative. They're not really outraged, they just want to use their power to exert control over the rest of us. The fear of their violence, emotional and physical.

And every fucking time we give in, we embolden them to do it some more.

When you hear someone saying "Oh, he can't do that, the right will call him a $WHATEVER", they're pandering to the right. They're prematurely caving to the pressure the right will put on, in a vain attempt to avoid it.

You can't win against fascists with half-hearted measures. Stop catering to their abusive whims, and start standing up to this bullshit.

Well, Google, ya gone and done it.

I just uninstalled Chrome, and installed Firefox. The last two days, YouTube turned to shit on me - won't load videos, is clearly heavily throttled. I switch to Firefox - YouTube works perfectly.

If you've been putting off abandoning Chrome, it's a LOT easier than I expected. Firefox imported my history, my logins/passwords, bookmarks, and so on. Completely painless. Chrome has become thoroughly enshittified. Leave it behind.
