Over in my local public rose garden, there's not a lot of roses yet but the vines are showing a lot of heart.💖🌺 (Peculiar white smudges on the images courtesy of my windshield.)

A closeup of two of the arches in the previous photo. In the midst of the lower arch, A single pink blossom is nearly overwhelmed by all the greenery surrounding it.

Album of the Day 236: After the Gold Rush by Neil Young

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ppMcqsg0Sw&list=OLAK5uy_l61knFHCT9-JvA88E172MSuaGZupcQwSc&index=1

1970 folk rock/country rock album. The front half of this album has an incredible run of some of the best of Neil Young's work—not to say the back half is bad by any means. "Tell Me Why" might be my favorite Neil Young song overall.

My picks: "Tell Me Why," "Southern Man," "Don't Let It Bring You Down"

@LadyMarth01 I do love this album. The title track is my favorite - Dolly Parton et al did a lovely heartfelt cover, but the original with Neil's strange haunting falsetto will always be the choice version.

The occupational therapist I'm seeing to help with CrankyBod crap recommended I try out guided meditations for sleep, so I googled one just now ... and after 10 seconds of Typical NewAgey Voice monotoning on and on about gliding down a river over a bad ambient-ish drone, I had to shut it off. Is there any such thing as a non-corny non-cringy guided meditation tape? 😅

My phone camera is not quite doing justice to the river's color today. One of the side-benefits of taking multiple pictures of this location over time is being able to appreciate little variations like this. 🥰

Some annoying lower back pain today. Did I stress it in my sleep last night? When navigating in the shower yesterday? While forgetting about my posture during gaming that evening? ... oh yeah, I also spent an hour doing the Skeery Important Online Form yesterday afternoon. That would be the straw that, well, not broke, but aggravated the geezer's back. But at least I banished the Skeery Important Deadline anxiety. For now. 🤣

Oh wait! I almost forgot about the late-night mini-meltdown I had, about some items in my apartment that were in the way and needed to be relocated right that minute even if my bod was in no shape to be doing so at that point - LOLsigh. That sure didn't help matters.

A droll little bit of conversation about creative usage of vegetable emojis inspired my brain to pop this old favorite onto today's Mental Soundtrack. After all, if you call any vegetable, the chances are good the vegetable will respond to you. At least, according to Frank. 🍆 🧄 🎃 🤣

Once again I have managed to delay doing my tax return until the deadline is breathing down my neck. This year I do have moving cross-town as a valid-seeming excuse ... until one admits the move was back in January. Nope, this is just my usual mental dance between my Big Skeery Important Forms Anxiety and my Big Skeery Important Deadlines Anxiety, until I finally settle down and do the dang thing. Or file for an extension. 😜

Looks like kvetching about the dang tax return online was the motivation I needed to actually get the darn thing done. Another example of the phenomenon I call The Power of Positive Kvetching. 🤣

Now here's a fascinating local wildlife story - a wolverine has been spotted roaming streets in the outskirts of this town near me in western Oregon, apparently off-course from the mountains. https://www.klcc.org/environment/2024-04-05/wolverine-a-rare-species-in-oregon-spotted-roaming-south-eugene

@HulloItsIcy Also, I hope, but am not holding my breath, that the Los Angeles Police get reamed for incompetence and false imprisonment - they could have done the DNA thing themselves, but trusted the sociopath instead of the poor homeless guy. Disgraceful.

Having a generally cranky-geezer day due to a combo of bad knees, stressful peopling moments, and the sudden weather gearshift back to Oregon damp, so it was time for another nature errand to get my head sorted. Such a relief to commune with the trees, which may make my eyes itch but never give me anxiety attacks over "okay now what the heck did they mean by that last DM??!?" 🤣

And then an old friend from my college radio days who I told about the youngun who didn't know from Frank immediately responded with this song, so now it's on my mental soundtrack as well. TBH I think it's a safe bet the youngun wouldn't know from Steely Dan either. Or maybe even Aretha. Ah well, time flies when you're having. ("Typo" intended.)

On my mental soundtrack today, because the sweet young medical professional who I consulted with the other day had never heard of Frank Zappa, let alone his classic musical rant about woowoo-purveyors, making me feel even more of a geezer than my CrankyBod was doing. 🤣

It's lovely, by the way, to live near the gloriously complex confluence of the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers. Having grown up in the very different Hudson River Valley, the nature geek in me is fascinated by these examples of rivers that have more room to wander.

dkozlov,
@dkozlov@mstdn.games avatar

For those not familiar with either or both river systems, the Hudson is bounded by dramatic cliffs (the Palisades on the west bank) and hills for much of its more-or-less straight north/south course, and is a tidal estuary a great ways north of where it opens into New York Harbor and the Atlantic. Whereas the Willamette and its tributaries, once down from the Cascades, have a whole broad valley to mosey around and flood into (dams notwithstanding).

@krafty @SmudgeTheInsultCat IMO the hiring folks think they can get away with pushing the young ones around more, because we old geezers have been around the rodeo a few too many times to be taken advantage of so easily.
