What's now happening in is absolutely a replay of what was happening there and in in 2004, in 2009, in 2006 and again in 2020, in Ukraine again in 2014, and so on. The people are demanding their right to be heard, and a putin-backed oligarch is using force to subdue them. We used to call these color revolutions.

Just as we got a conviction in the #Vastaamo case, now #Helsinki primary education IT has been breached and 120k students', parents' and teachers' info has been stolen.

Details are sparse, but parts of what has been revealed sound like a #Office365 #breach to me. Not confirmed though.

Is it possible for putin to replace self-interested henchmen with more effective people? One would hope not. In any effect, patrushev out, shoigu has a new job, and a new guy in defense ministry. Shall he have an illustrious, short career lining his own pockets with plunder and planning castles in the countryside.

Edit: "new" guy not so new - 65 yo, deputy PM with no notable achievements. Unthreatening to the little guy.

I kind of miss favorites/likes being public. I don't really want to pollute people's timelines, so I'm a bit selective about what I boost.

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@stefan
As you already figured, likes are public. However, they're not synced, so your home server can not tell which of your follows have liked a (foreign-server) toot. Only the poster's own server has the complete info (ignoring federation breaks, that is).

It would be relatively easy to make an algorithmic timeline that gives relative boost to toots liked by your network, were it not for the above.

Here's a person who certainly is more able to explain himself in complete sentences than elon, but ultimately someone who just wants to be a billionaire without needing to be accountable for anything.

And the self-contradictions? Oh, man. If only he could be interviewed by a sharp journalist rather than a fanboy.

Feeling a bit left out and jealous purely through my own inaction with all the awesome #aurora pictures. I figured it probably wouldn't show over Helsinki light pollution, but I live one km walk away from clear access to northward skies over a bay.

Oh, well. Must go see this evening.

“The people of Israel is not the government of Israel”, says one demonstrator, as massive demonstrations against the violent Netanyahu regime continues.

In the 2022 election, 23 percent voted for Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, but he was still able to gain power by forming a coalition with a number parties including the ultra-extremist Religious Zionist Party.

Something I tell my software students a lot when they’re looking for jobs is to remember that a shockingly large number of job descriptions are written by people in HR who have next to zero understanding of the industry, the specific team, or the business need.

All they’ve got to work with is fragments they’ve heard without comprehension, coming to them through a terrible game of corporate telephone.

I applaud teams, managers and HR with broken recruiting, because it makes MY job recruiting people easier. :D

(No, I don't really, because broken recruiting burns out good people. But it is easy to stand out, though.)

This raises an interesting question. If a GPDR request to delete personal data causes a removal of attribution required by a license, does that nuke the material too, despite it not being personal data itself

It's an appealing line of thought in the stackoverflow case, but not so much if I consider a GPDR request against say, Debian to remove all my contributions. I should not be able to retroactively destroy Debian.

Anyone have insight on the legalities?

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@benjamineskola
GDPR considers anything that identifies a person either alone or in combination with other data personal data that the subject herself can control (request a copy, demand deletion, etc). Attribution obviously requires a name. Name is personal data.

Consent doesn't even enter the picture. There are extremely few lawful basis for processing data after a data subject has demanded deletion - and "we want to keep this text so that we can resell it" certainly isn't one.
@joeyh

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@benjamineskola
That's not how it works. GDPR trumps their wishes to retain my name, and if they can't retain my name, they can't attribute, and would be in violation of the license for the text.
@joeyh

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@benjamineskola
Yes, yes, but they have no lawful basis other than the license originally granted. One doesn't get to just invent their own bases.

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@benjamineskola Apparently CC-BY has a provision that if I demand they remove my name, they can simply remove the attribution, but keep the content. This was opposite to what I was hoping for - but to your point; they have no defensible basis for keeping my name if I demand they remove it.

#ISW, May 8 assessment: "Reports indicate that there is an available open-source tool that allows people to search by specific coordinates for Telegram users who have enabled a certain location-sharing setting."

But of course there is. The russian-engineering, roll-your-own-crypto, cryptocoin-shilling, encrypted-but-not-encrypted messaging app to have a zero-day exploited privacy flaw exposing users' location? I can't imagine where such failures would come from.

#telegram #zeroday #privacy

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

Apparently some people are confused about a purportedly secure, private messenger having not just a location sharing capability, but one implemented so badly that it allows a malicious actor to triangulate another user's exact location without permission, an entirely avoidable incident. That's what I call roll-your-own russian engineering. So badly done, it's hard to prove whether it was malicious or just stupid.

Logged in to Stack Overflow for the first time in 10 years to check exactly what have I left there.. Now, since the few answers I've given are CC-BY, so they must attribute them to me, if I make a GDPR data subject request for them to delete all my data, logic dictates that whatever they think about text as personal data, they must delete the answers, because they can't attribute them to me as a deleted account. Right?

osma,
@osma@mas.to avatar

@pnorman
Thanks. I'm far less familiar with CC than I am with GDPR. So it doesn't allow me.to revoke their license? What does 3(a)(1)(A)(v) mean?
