Media coverage of Republicans stampeding to NYC to attack Trump's trial as illegit is marred by euphemism. This isn't just "currying favor" w Trump or "expressing loyalty" or auditioning to be his VP. It's placing Trump over rule of law

Rs are attacking judge, witnesses, prosecutors & trial as illegitimate. This isn't just helping Trump evade the gag order. The point is also to display in spectacle form that their fealty is to him over the rules that make the system function

@GottaLaff The spectacle, the disruption, is the entertainment, it's the point. Entertainment meant to amuse, anger, rally, foment, distract...so lies are the feature. Trump was a moderately successful actor, even as he was a terrible failure as a businessman. He was successful as an illusionist for tv, which is where he honed is abilities to create a fictional character, and sell it to fans.

My question about his narrative for his criminal case is this: if his made-for-tv storyline is that he is the innocent victim, how does Mr "I only hire the best" (tagline) explain why he, for decades, continually hired, employed, praised, promoted, retained, and $2 Million severanced -- and repeatedly surrounded himself with -- convicted felons and perjurers like Allen Weiselberg and Michael Cohen?

The entertainment storyline we're now supposed to follow is that the ONLY CLUELESS man is spectacular business genius Trump?

These rotten apples (including convicted perjurer and felon Weisselberg whom Trump recently awarded a $2,000,000 severance for valuable services rendered) do not fall far from the rotted tree.

Nikki Haley said the most important issue facing teenage girls is unfair competition from transgirl athletes.

An estimated ONE MILLION high school girls have been raped based on a 2021 (NBC) report. In 2021, 2590 children under 18 were murdered by guns (Pew). Before age 18, 3.5 Million girls have been stalked. One in 10 girls is a victim of dating violence.(Childrens Hosp of Phila).

Meanwhile, (Apr 21, 2023) Newsweek reports 15 high school transathletes competed in high school sports, of those 15, only THREE are girls.

MAGA will exaggerate and lie about victimization to justify hate and bigotry. Nazis did this, too. It's not harmless.

@Alice Language and its rules have evolved and, as a not dead language, it will continue to evolve; When language ceases to adapt it will fade from usefulness, will be abandoned for that which more closely does what the purpose of language is: as a utility to communicate our experiences.

Those folks who fear or are enraged or claim they cannot adapt to gender changes in language use or to the world as it exists are Darwinian volunteers for extinction whether they know it or not.

I am old enough to remember being told a woman could never deliver the mail because it was "postman", and therefore a gendered occupation outside women's capacity.

If you can say "mail carrier" you can figure out they/them. And if you say you can't, you mean you won't.

Richard Blumenthal have intro’d legislation to enforce the Constitution's explicit language banning foreign by prohibiting the President, VP, Cabinet officials and Members of Congress from accepting payments from foreign governments without first obtaining the consent of Congress.

Officials would be prohibited from accepting foreign payments without Congressional approval during the entire time in office and for two years after leaving.

So, Trump knows he lost 2020. He knew he would lose 2020. He lied and plotted and committed crimes to refuse to accept a newly elected government, new AG, the new prospect of accountability for corruption.

He knows he will lose 2024. The numbers just aren't there, even adjusting for Trumpist election corruption.

So, given this: What's his actual universe of options for avoiding prison?!

Flight from Justice seems a rising contender. The seeding of the glowering Mug shot as justification for flight seems par. A switch from smug "What me worry? Losers" Trump face.

If it's not too late, get a small pump and hose, in case of basement or house flooding. Bought one after groundwater rise was pushed to the max due to two successive tropical storms in 4 days. We don't have a sump pump, so I spent 48 hours lifting wet/dry vacs full of water to protect my furnace and hot water heater. You can get a small inverter generator to run the pump if your power goes out.
Store potable water. Assume power outages. Extra batteries. Gas up vehicles. Have a go bag or list in case you have to leave. Remember pets, meds, elderly neighbors. Be safe!

Had a dream last night where, in a moment of intense drama, I stood up and slapped the faces of three clocks, and my beloved late cat shook his head and muttered "This dream is too stupid for me" and sauntered out.

Dream last night: I am surrounded by sweet happy dogs who all want a boop. I am booping this nose and that nose, happy wiggling dogs all rushing up for a boop. I realize slipped in among the dogs are a porpoise, an alien, and a lizard, each happy and wiggly, all wanting a boop. I happily oblige. Boop!

Trying to find a Samoan song I was taught as a child, includes the lyrics " kua fiafia". If anyone has a link, that would be great. Google doesn't recognize it as a song.

It's a delightful simple tune I have sung now for decades to the confusion of my New England neighbors. My grade school class sang it at our school's May Day celebration which, in Hawai'i was a celebration of all the different cultures in our state. We learned Bon dancing, square dancing, hula (of course), Filipino stick dancing (tinikling), the Kamehameha waltz, etc, and songs from around the Pacific.

Internets? Can you do your thing?

Just read the excellent Mother Jones article on Dr Bandy Lee, a psychiatrist whose career is studying repeat violent criminal behavior and who publicly exercised her "Duty to Warn" in 2016 about the national violence threat posed by Trump, and was then sanctioned, censored, and then fired: Dr Lee warns, again, that while we will face an uptick in violence in holding Trump accountable, not to do so would damage our nation in the longterm.

She likens Trump's behavior to a gang leader, a man whose currency is fear - wielded for or against him, an emotionally impaired weak man unempathetic and self-focused, who gets away with it. Once a gang leader is incarcerated, his followers rethink their trust and delusion.

His campaign appearances directly corrolate to hate crime increases per capita in counties that host.

I thought DOJ might agree to a plea deal where he elocutes his guilt in exchange for no prison. I now believe he has to serve time to break the contagion of violence he sows.

Hearing Christian Evangelicals idolize Trump as King David, a flawed lascivious murderous King who was chosen by God to be King. David was not actually a Christian, he preceded the life of Jesus by 1000 years.

Curious that "Christians" would forsake the believed actual Son of God Jesus Christ who led a life not characterized by pussy-grabbing, adultery, lying, encouraging assassination, to justify the idolatry of Trump.

Why not support Jesus values?

Perhaps I am foolish (likely I am foolish) but something feels changed; the E Jean Carroll judgment, the collapsed Army of God Truck Caravan, the mocked rambling blathering of a "Nothing" 77 year old man desperate for attention, the rising Dobbs motivated voters in Red States, a father cruelly beheaded by his MAGA cursed son and broadcast on youtube.

It's been a terrible unspeakable horrific 8 years. Are we close to an end of the insanity? Are they running out of invisible steam?

I did a bad thing today. I am cleaning up the house and preparing for Saturday Dump Day when I take the trash and recycling to the Town Transfer Station. So, I cut up all the boxes, including the big one the cat has been sitting in. To my surprise, she mourned the box by pawing at its pieces, and trying to push herself underneath the pile. I am a bad senseless inconsiderate human.

I woke to realize how few years, statistically, I have left on this earth. Time to get cracking!

Less years, even, to continue to work -- I better get my files in order for the next person. Clean up the bedroom. Love the cat, and my beloved wife. Learn new things, unexpected things.

I am not afraid of aging, I am more curious about what life and the world might be if I outlive my statistical end and get to see 100. My mom made it to 97, my grandma to 105.

Curiosity has always out weighed fear, in my life.

Happy New Year to the curious, the fearful, the undecided, all!

Ok, I'm so old I have what used to be called: "Hyperkinetic Impulse Disorder in Children" and is now called ADHD, but my beloved beleaguered spouse sometimes prefers to call it "Patty Pay Attention Deficit Disorder."

I am, admittedly, easily distracted combined with an interest in everything and a low threshold of excitement. So, basically, I am a happy dog in a world of squirrels.

Why in the world would Trump think if he demanded each side take a drug test, that Joe would refuse, and would give Trump an out from the debate? The only thing Joe's blood test would show was elevated a1c from all that ice cream. Let's see Trump's jacked up adderall drug test.
