If Tetris has taught me anything, it's that errors pile up and accomplishments disappear.

paulomalley, to threads

Now that has begun the process of with the greater community (and the in general), I am seeing more and more instances that are electing to from Threads pre-emptively.
This means that they are not giving their users the choice as to whether they want to see this content.

If your Admin has decided to arbitrarily block Threads, and you wish to have access to the thriving there moving forward, I would suggest looking to your account to another instance that is maintaining Federation with Threads.

You will generally be able to see this information in the "Moderated Servers" section of your instances "/about" page. If you do not see it there, be sure to ask your Admin.

If you decide that you wish to make this migration, I have created some short guide videos on not only how to migrate your account across easily, but also another on how to ensure your list of followed accounts (and blocked ones) can be brought along with you.

paulomalley,

@EndemicEarthling Yeah, it goes both ways. That's the benefit of an open platform. Users have the choice to place themselves in the community that best suits them.

paulomalley,

@EndemicEarthling I'm not here to argue about Meta with you. I am simply providing people with information on how to tailor their own Mastodon experience.
Feel free to take these sort of comments elsewhere.

I can clearly see your side of the discussion, and I appreciate you being passionate about it. But it doesn't belong in the replies to my post.
Thanks in advance.

I guess it was probably very slippery.

It’s called Apollo G.

Oh dear. I have found a way to run AI Art Generation locally on my Mac using Python… This could be a problem. lol

Let's give this a test run, eh?
I wonder how large I can make them before I crash my Mac...

paulomalley,

@davidbures Yeah, and Apple Silicon. My work laptop has the M2 Max and 64GB of RAM, and even it can stutter a little while the images are being generated.

paulomalley, to keyboard

Just passed 6 months in my new role this week! 🎉😁

My desk in the brand new Sydney office is starting to get decked out and personalised. Dual 16:10 monitors hooked up and working seamlessly.

Rebuilt the Milkshake the other night and have allocated it as my "in the office" Mostly just so I don't need to transit with my more expensive keyboard whenever I am in the office... Lol.

And yes, I'm turning into a "stickers on my laptop" kind of person... 💜😁👍

“When can you do it?”

Two weeks

“We need it next week”

Then I suggest you ask again last week.

paulomalley, to Pixelfed

If you are keen on moving across to from , but wish that you could bring your history of photos across with you, I am happy to say that this is now possible!

Pixelfed has just rolled out the ability to import your old insta images into Pixelfed whilst maintaining information around dates etc. This makes moving over easier than ever!

Keep in mind that you may need to do the import a few times as you can only do 100 images in at a time and there is a cap of 1000 images, but it is pretty fluid and easy to do.

Anyone have this issue where google photos says “preparing backup” infinitely, and never backs up ur photos? (I checked and I have more than enough google storage, I’m connected to WiFi, etc). Please help!! There’s no answers online

paulomalley,

@taylorlorenz I looked through all the replies and did not see this one mentioned.
Are you using the Google VPN (I saw that you bought additional storage so you may have access to the Google VPN). I have had issues with the VPN blocking uploads to both Google Photos and OneDrive.
In the end, I just had to allow these apps to bypass the VPN so that my uploads would work as expected.

paulomalley, to android

Do you want to share files between your Android phone and your Windows PC without using cables or cloud services? 🤔 Apple devices have access to Airdrop, but what about those of us with Android phones and Windows PCs?

Nearby Share is a fast and easy way to send and receive files, photos, videos, links, and more with devices that are physically close to you. It uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct to establish a secure connection and transfer data. 🚀

But how do you use Nearby Share with Windows? 🤷‍♂️

Don’t worry, I have got you covered. I have created a video tutorial that shows you how to set up and use Nearby Share with Windows in a few simple steps. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/PXRzmUPTJ7Y 📺

I hope you find this video helpful and informative. If you do, please give it a Fav and boost it with your network. 👍
Thank you for watching and happy sharing! 😊

paulomalley, to accessibility

Did you know that you can use voice typing in Google Docs to create amazing content without typing a single word? 🗣️

Voice typing is an excellent feature that allows you to dictate your thoughts and ideas to Google Docs, and it automatically transcribes them for you. It's perfect for people who have difficulty typing, want to save time, or just prefer to speak rather than type. 🙌

You just need a microphone, a Google account, and a browser. You can also edit and format your document with voice commands, such as "bold that" or "insert bullet list". 🚀

Voice typing is not only a convenient tool, but also an accessible one. It can help people with disabilities, injuries, or other limitations to express themselves and create content. 🌎

What do you think about voice typing in Google Docs? Have you tried it before? Do you have any questions or feedback for me? Let me know below. I'd love to hear from you. 💬

I'm seeing quite a few accounts on my timeline with the open lock icon. Can someone explain to me what that means? Thanks!

@feditips

paulomalley,

@pixiecata @prachisrivas There is actually a great use case for using both in a post.

I use hashtags in an unlisted post as a way to introduce people to particular tags. It makes it super easy for them to simply click on the tag, but my post telling them about it doesn't dilute the actual tag itself since it won't show up there.

paulomalley,

@shanselman I just jumped into it now. I am really impressed with how fluid it is and how simple the process of getting connected to people was.
I will definitely like it more once it is federated. Hopefully I can then import the accounts and things that I am following here.

Threads has sort of solved a lot of things going for it that are key pain points for users moving to Mastodon from Twitter.

gpollara, to mastodon

I like the chronological on . But I really wish there was a way to filter it for unread posts.

The longer time in the day goes on, the harder it is to go back and "catch up" on older message, especially if time is tight.

Filtering out read messages would facilitate "little and often" browsing of timeline, more in keeping with use of social media (e.g. Waiitng for something, in lift, etc...)

paulomalley,

@gpollara
Yeah, I completely agree with you on this. As I begin to develop a larger base of accounts I follow (and hashtags) from around the world, time zone differences make it difficult for me to see the content from a bunch of the people I follow.

I'd love to be able to filter out content I have already seen in my timeline.

kims, to random

Does anyone remember the fedi tool that shows you who the people you follow... follow?

I vaguely recall that if I follow Rebecca, Brooke, and Heidi, there's a tool that will show me recommendations for which users they follow.

Am I misremembering this?

paulomalley,

@jann @kims This tool generally relies on users allowing their social graph to viewed.
If you wish to not have this tool work on your account, it is super easy to do so.

https://youtu.be/ie8SWkJu7vI

paulomalley,

@jann @kims But you can see a list of the people that I follow and who follows me from my profile page...

This has been able to be done for as long as I have been on Mastodon but since I have only been here for less than a year, I can't speak to whether this was changed at some point.

My understanding is that the decision on sharing this or not is up to the individual user to make.
