I'm curious who else got a DM from a certain Fediverse account that lists different instances for people to get information about? Specifically asking about a DM telling you that to continue to be listed on their site, your instance is required to defederate from a certain other platform that is owned by Meta.
If you got a DM from them and care to share that information, that would be great.
Please update your mastodon instance, or I'm going to #defederate it since you have SEVERE security issues. You claim to be running mastodon v3.2.1, which is quite old (we are at v4.2.7 now)
I’d like to report suspicious activity going on with @pixelfed whereby I think they are collecting user data. I deleted my account one weak ago and despite my deletion where my account no longer shows on pixelfed.social , it is still showing on federated instances.
I deleted my account a week ago (and deleted all my posts using the Pixelfed application on the iPhone) but they still show on the Mastodon, Mammoth and Ivory.
Bitte #deföderiert diesen Server >> clew.lol << - deren User*innen belästigen & beschimpfen teils öffentlich, teils per DM auf gerichtsbare Art und Weise. Die dortigen Admins wollen dagegen nichts unternehmen.
Please #defederate this server >> clew.lol << - their users harass and abuse, sometimes publicly, sometimes via DM in a legal manner. The admins there don't want to do anything about it.
Now that #Threads has begun the process of #Federation with the greater #Mastodon community (and the #Fediverse in general), I am seeing more and more instances that are electing to #defederate from Threads pre-emptively.
This means that they are not giving their users the choice as to whether they want to see this content.
If your Admin has decided to arbitrarily block Threads, and you wish to have access to the thriving #community there moving forward, I would suggest looking to #migrate your account to another instance that is maintaining Federation with Threads.
You will generally be able to see this information in the "Moderated Servers" section of your instances "/about" page. If you do not see it there, be sure to ask your Admin.
If you decide that you wish to make this migration, I have created some short guide videos on not only how to migrate your account across easily, but also another on how to ensure your list of followed accounts (and blocked ones) can be brought along with you.
To those leaving due to my “heavy handed”, “ethically questionable,” and “morally bankrupt” decision to let people decide whether to interact with Threads: I am sorry it didn’t work out.
To people on instances who will soon block me/us because I did not block Threads, thanks for being there, I wish you all well.
Every single poster I've seen responding to articles on Lemmy and kbin from this site have been shitty, angry little pricks with regressive takes on everything. We need to block these trolls before they ruin engagement from well-reasoned humans.
Mastodon.nz has blocked me. All the followers I lost were folks on that server.
Will anyone give a shit? Nope. Because no one cared when I told them how I was being harassed and chased off. I haven’t been on that fucking server for MONTHS, and they’re still coming after me!!
I’m #blocking#Fosstodon at an account-level. If I were an admin or mod, I’d #defederate the shit out of them. I just wasted about 10 minutes reading white techbros on there rationalising why “English-only” makes sense.
I may lose a few followers, but I don’t care. I’m done having any sort of contact with folks who enable bigots.
I got an email warning from this server - after posting in Irish a number of times over the lifetime of my account here and other folks telling me that it is welcome - that my posts in Irish are NOT welcome on Fosstodon.
Irish is a minority language not heard often, it is extremely important to me, and so this decision means this server is not a place for me. Sadly, despite my long career in FOSS.
I might abandon this account and use mastodon.ie. TBD
I hope other instances see this, and #defederate fosstodon. English isn’t even the most widely spoken language worldwide. It’s just sad little English speakers trying to inflict their language onto the world.
(I say this, btw, as a person who only speaks English, but isn’t racist)
@kev@mairin@victorvicpal@oliphant have you heard about this yet? This needs attention. A move to #defederate. Fosstodon is too damn big to have an “English only” rule. It’s racist and discriminatory.
@CStamp@Ruth_Mottram And yet the #BBC have posted no #transphobic content to the fediverse. I hope users walk away from instances with heavy handed admins who pre-emptively #defederate based on their own prejudices - that sort of shit isn't good for the fediverse at all.
Pondering how democratic tools & rules are only as good as they can reflect a group's consensus.
The #benevolentdictator model in open systems, ie FOSS & now fedi instances, despite problems (centralisation, burnout), remains compelling. It could also be a Team with control (as with post-BDFL projects like CiviCRM) – the key is decision-makers have to reflect consensus. Because it's all open, they know the community can depart/fork with relatively low cost (unlike the Zuskian/techbro dictator).
With 51% and then 56% of #socialcoop voting to #defederate Meta, but a block & a bylaw mean we'll actually federate or vote again, reminds me how #digitalsociocracy can empower those with the most free time (ie not working single parents), those who use English best (ie not maj. world), or those who can exploit rules & tools to suit themselves. In the end many donate time yet decisions often stay unmade. Or when they do, no-one takes ownership of them, so it's harder to cleanup/fix if a mistake.
Okay #FediFollowers :
I am seriously considering switching to calckey.lgbt as my main instance.
Is there anything bad about the instance I should know before I hit the button? Something bad the admins have done? Conflict and uncertainty among the mods? Instances they didn't #defederate that they should have, or vice versa?
@aurynn people can run ads on their instances if they wish (I won't, since mine is a labour of love), but I understand the economics don't always work out when you rely solely on donations.
Defederate from Fanaticus.social (kbin.social)
