Peertube 6 just added the ability to replace videos and password protect videos. These are two big wins in the @peertube column for me vs YouTube.
I'd love to see some sort of membership or synchronization with Patreon. Kind of need to figure out how to get paid without YouTube in the picture for it to really takeoff.

Well, French videomakers recently used and as technical blocks to build a self-hosted Patreon alternative : a place where creators can host content, exclusive content, in exchange for support (newsletter suscription, donation, etc.)

They created that on their own time, so it's mainly in French right now, but you can find out more on https://bunseed.org/

v6 has been released https://joinpeertube.org/news/release-6.0 with three main features:

  1. Protect your videos with passwords
  2. Video storyboard: preview what's coming
  3. Upload a new version of your video

It was implemented in the v3 release, in late 2020...

(And that shows why we need to do more and better about promoting PeerTube... but hey, we're growing, slowly but surely)

Short answer is: Yes! (but more about that in our plans-for-PeerTube announcement in two weeks).

Note that PeerTube's admins can already disable p2p streaming (and fall back on standard html streaming) to prevent viewers'IP being available (and that was from the start, if I'm not mistaken -- Pouhiou)

Did you know that your piece made us realize that a feature such as password protection doesn't seem available in YouTube, and is behind a paywall on Vimeo?

We usually only see we still have a long way to go, but your news helped us realized that we have come that far.

Alors c'est très gentil et c'est super OK, il n'y a pas à être désolé·e, hein !

Notre modèle solidaire, basé sur le don, a permis pendant des années que Framasoft puisse proposer ses outils à tout le monde, grâce au financement d'une petite partie de ces bénéficiaires, celles et ceux qui peuvent et le veulent.

On croise les doigts, mais on ne voit pas pourquoi cette solidarité faillirait cette année 🤞

(And, truth be told, such a project couldn't be a megacorp video... It would benefit from such means but would also be limited by those economic models... But that's too bug a hole for a small side note 😅 )
