I know many people find that Xitter has become an unreadable grifter nazi hell hole, but I just looked at my timeline over there, the "Following" one, and it was so full with beautiful that I got sad. Filling my feed with just a shitload of amazing art from past and present is one of the things I have not been able to recreate over here, not nearly to the same degree. And yes I know about the relevant hashtags and art focused servers and all that.

...but afaict especially the art history bots that I love so much are just not here. There were a whole bunch of them a while ago at arthaus.social, but that somehow fell asleep, and I have not seen any similar endeavors anywhere since 😢 I dearly miss my daily dose of Zinaida Serebriakova, or Fantin-Latour, or anyone propagating Stephen Ellcock's curations, or the artistsofcolour account, or all the art accounts retweeting each others' most beautiful images.

It's a bit funny to me that as many people had been calling Xitter a "hellsite" already for years, it was actually easier for me to fill my feed with things that give me joy over there than it is here. And somehow also less aggressively depressing things. Yes, I put quite a bit of thought & effort into how I curated things over there. I do the same here. But somehow here is harder for me.

@levampyre Oh yes, the gardeners are here! What I am missing is really specifically the art stuff described above.

Also, thank you <3

Today was the first time I planted potatoes in shorts and a tank top at 25 °C. Before it used to be basically the first thing to do in the garden, yes when the ground had thawed and all that, but usually really quite miserable wet cold weather still. It is still the first thing we did in the garden. Some of the difference is that I am just a bit later with it this year, but some of it is that the first weekend of April feels like fucking June already.

This world is so weird now.

So granted, I’m coming down from a fever, but I feel increasingly committed to the idea that the hollowness and repulsiveness at least some people identify in prompt-generated art is the opposite number of the species of thing Christopher Alexander considered most central, and I mean that in the most rigorous and least woozy way.

Niche post, deeply felt.

I wonder sometimes if men's suits genuinely look good, or if they just seem good due to the combination of status marker and social conditioning.

It's hard to separate social constructs from perception and taste.

The thing that strikes me most in that Guardian article about plastic that is doing the rounds, is that the dominance of single use plastics themselves was in no way an accident or simple myopia, but intentionally promoted because more profitable.

It's been planned obsolescence all along.

I would call it a crime if it wasn't so very legal.

And now it is so hard to imagine a world without it. What a mind fuck.

@neurovagrant I moved in with my dad a few years ago, which worked well for a while because we are both autistic in similar ways, mostly stick to ourselves, don't meddle etc. etc. But now that his cognitive decline is worsening and he gets confused a lot more, this "keeping out of each other's hair" approach does not work anymore, and wow is it stressing me out.

@TarkabarkaHolgy There should be a provision about number of years a book has to continuously live with you after which it becomes legally yours. Because some of these tomes have practically merged with my shelf by now.

On the other hand, I love my library and do not want it to be diminished in the slightest!

I have spent some time in shops recently for reasons, among the shops one that claims to be Germany's largest, and have been kinda shocked about the lack of color choice for bike helmets. I always gravitate towards what I then realize is the kids' section 😅

This frustrated me enough that I went looking for actually colorful options for adults, and found these: https://www.melon-helmets.com/collections/all

Just posting this as a PSA + note to future self, I don't even need a new helmet atm 🙃

    Comrades.

I’ve been down lately. A bad cold. The darkness of winter setting in. The horrors of the world. A thousand trolls in my mentions. excusing horrific violence.

Please. Some good news. Of any kind, at any scale. Just share some good shit. Tell me about your rays of sunshine.

@HeavenlyPossum I planted 300 tulips last week in a place where many many people will see them next spring (old formerly abandoned garden plot at the side of a main road), and I will be able to give gifts of tulip bouquets, too, and stand in the middle of them getting high on colors when the sun shines.

Also, apparently Portugal just did a test run of running on exclusively renewable energy for 6 days.
