I would like to endorse other minor web apps in the , but most of them are full of UI glitches, are incomplete and downright buggy looking odd things.

From my designer point of view and are the only effective ones, because they speak to people who are used to proper visual design language (read: Non-nerds, non-engineers, the regular people and design oriented people).

Things like , , and newer niche apps cause reactions like: "What is this?", they look like back end is fine but nobody is in charge of the design and the UI has no direction whatsoever. It's the general culprit in the programming world: A back end developer thinks everything is fine when we add a CSS framework and that's that.

If we just get the UI right everywhere, we get more people to the . I just wish there was more /design people willing to contribute.

@mitexleo I would like to contribute to many things. But I have limited time and energy, so I just focus on the things that I myself use and are the easiests, to save myself from burning out. Right now the is my sole focus and perhaps later the CSS/UI in general. is out of scope time/energy-wise for me right now.

I too hope that more excited people have motivation and time to help, but I'm well aware of the fact that all the good ones are overworked and busy with projects they make money from, me included. But one can hope. :bunhdlurkaww:

I've been always attracted to beautiful things. I always list pros and cons in the things I use. I go through dozens of options.

The user interface has HUGE value for me and it can weigh so much it can even top some of the downsides. But even if ALL of the other features are fine and the UI is bad, I have no desire in using the software. It's just the way it is and I'm pretty sure bad UI is a big turn-off for most of the people. Who doesn't love nice looking things?

For me that content is not missing, except for threads, but it's good that they are missing. Then again I follow over 5000, you follow under 200.

I've hit a wall.

None of my contacts want to join, and most of my following/ers have become inactive, which discourages me from posting.

And it remains cumbersome to find content (especially without hashtags) and interesting people on an instance for one.

Maybe it's being on an instance for one that's the issue. Maybe it's Mastodon. Or maybe I'm just tired of social media in general.

Meh.

@todd Yeah, the key getting the most of it here is to be very active. It kinda requires some work but is really worth it.

Btw I was a huge craft beer enthusiast for about 10 years. Reviewed over 5000 different beers, wrote a beer blog, also some of the reviews I wrote were for a craft beer restaurant (explosivebar.com). But then I quit alcohol and been sober now for almost 3 years. The craft beer scene and culture was nice, but realized alcohol is not healthy habit for me and decided to give it up. My life's been much easier after that decision. I still go to pubs, I just don't want to pollute my body.

Vappu on varsin merkityksetön juhla, kun ei ole siman, alkoholin tai munkkien ystävä. Muistan ajat, kun sitä juhli puhtaasti humalan takia. Pää täyteen viinaa ja kirkkopuistoon rymyämään. Sitä se varmaan monelle on nykyäänkin. Itse nautin pitkästä viikonlopusta ilman krapulaa. Hyvää vappua!

Niin negatiivinen yleisilmapiiri, että käy omalle psyykelle liian raskaaksi.

Joo, voishan sitä siistiä ja karsia ja blokkailla ja unfollowata ja ties mitä, mutta se on kuin moppaisi rantaan huuhtoutuvia aaltoja.

Paljon hyviä tuttuja tuli sitä kautta, kavereitakin, ja täältähän minut löytää sitten jatkossa. Kuten myös Instagramista.

@mookie Mastodon is great in that regard, I can modify the things that are not to my likings. Both UI and features are in control of the regular coders like me.

Can't say the same about Bluesky. Not yet at least. They say it will be self hosted but I'm skeptical about whether a company owned platform would ever give 100% control to its users.
