@genealogy Ah surely you jest? Messes? We are talking people & families, right? All a mess, always a mess. Just get one sorted and something else pops up. I say "Embrace the Mess" and do what speaks to you now. Currently working on a 4000 year old conundrum. It's funny too that people forget how messy humans are. We have a multiplicity of motivations. We move. We come back home. My great joy this week. A new YDNA match that appears to have moved less than 30 miles in 4000 years. https://wheatonwood.com/2024/05/22/the-journey-of-one-4000-year-old-celtic-y-snp-rfgc22501-ten-years-of-discovery/

I think maybe the best tribute I can make to my mom (other than to mention how decent, how sweet, how respectful to others she was), is to show you pictures of our garden.

She was an artist, but also a gardener. She somehow instilled both of those things in me, so that twenty-three years after she passed and 3000 miles away, we have a nice garden. I think of her often when I’m working in it.

Her garden was full of roses, boxwood, azaleas and wildflowers. I wish I had pictures of it to show you.

Thanks, Mom.

The southwest corner of the garden, featuring Geranium maderense, Cala Lily and Birds Nest Fern. The corner of our wooden fence is in the background.
Taken from the back (west) end of the garden, looking southeast. Areas of sun and shade. Trunks of a holly tree take up the left edge of the photo, with Geranium maderense and other plants in the background.

I’ve decided that I don’t like pain and that I do not consent to the continued aggression from the herniated discs in my neck.

If this harassment continues, I will have to consult my lawyers, Ibuprofen, Ibuprofen, Ibuprofen, and Snugglebottom.

Every year around Carnival time they have it in T&T, I think near Port-of-Spain. They livestream the competitions but we can’t seem to access that here (southern California). We can get the previous years’ videos though. Here’s a website with lots of info about it:

    All eyes are on Virginians as they vote today to fill all 140 seats in the state legislature. Voters in this key swing state may reveal clues for the 2024 presidential election.

    And there will also be important lessons for American journalists as they gear up for the 2024 presidential race. So far, it’s not looking good.

    A journalism scholar explains what he’s learned in years of research:

    You really want to get people back to the office? Forget free cocktails. Think free daycare, six month parental leave, 25 days vacation + holidays, extensive carer benefits for those who need them, the expectation that you’ll stay home and rest rather than work if you’re sick, flexible hours, further help with the enormous cost of living in the cities you operate in.

    shaulawalko,
    @shaulawalko@sfba.social avatar

    @ben
    Help with the commuting expenses you’re asking of them. If you want them to commute 90 miles to be in your office, pay for their gas and pay for the 3+ round trip hours on the road as part of their salary.

    I'd like to remind the Fediverse that if you don't like YouTube blocking your ad blocker, that PeerTube exists.

    PeerTube not as good you say? The Fediverse is USER driven. That means if you want to attract better videos, you have to give creators a reason to use the service.

    There's some great content on PeerTube. You just have to dig deeper.

    So when you find it, share it. We showed them that Mastodon is better. Let's show them PeerTube can be as well.

    What's your favorite PeerTube channel?

    🤦🏻‍♀️ Back in the early 1990s I read books for children’s story time at the local library. One Friday in October I read a children’s story involving ghosts and goblins and what not for Halloween. Afterwards one of the moms complained to me about reading the story because she didn’t think Halloween is appropriate for kids and she doesn’t let her kid participate in the holiday.
