At the #CPAN #Security WG, we care a lot about what happens downstream of CPAN, and with the recent developments around metadata demands (think #SBOM) and cross-ecosystem package references (where PackageURLs are a proposed solution), we're very interested in finding good places to find solutions...

Suggestion: If a source repeatedly makes multiple easily refutable claims (), then this source should be considered "Gish-branded" and be ignored in further communications – until they make a good-faith demonstration (in a forum that is equivalent to the one they received the brand), that they are capable of conducting a well-reasoned and argument.

I would love it if fediverse clients could show some sort of sign when a post you see was published by one of those automatic, unauthorized Twitter clone account bots. I'm not going to have an opinion on whether or not those should exist, but I don't feel like boosting any posts from them.

✨ Great interview about with Doctorow @pluralistic on how a handful businesses control market "choke points" where their leverage makes both producers and customers worse off.

I'm thinking developers similarly are allowing themselves to be exploited by businesses depending on their work.

This is by (license) choice of course, and likewise not sustainable.

Is it really OK to exploit Vocational Awe this way?

So, anyone have tips for installing the plugin on a multisite installation?

I have it working fine on a single WordPress instance, but I'm having a challenge on a multisite setup.

On the multisite server, in the primary site, I've installed and activated the AP plugin, but it's not working, and in Site Health I see:

> Your WebFinger endpoint https://danyork.me/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:danyork@danyork.me does not return valid JSON for application/jrd+json.

Any ideas?

@ordnung, what is the server's rate limiting set to at the moment?

When scrolling to the "bottom" of a feed, it seems there sometime is a 5 minute delay before next retry is allowed... 😳

Isn't that a bit much? 😅

@ordnung Ahm. I'm using the web client, with Firefox 118.0.1 (Ubuntu).

Closing + opening, or (shift-) reloading the tab doesn't make a difference. 😟

After waiting for the rate limit/delay, scrolling/loading works as expected, though....

Though with my post, I'm trying to illuminate another something in common between and , which I found the video above made a point of in a really nice manner.

Namely that the focus on TIMTOWTDI in these – which by some people is perceived as a detriment – in fact is one of their greatest strengths.

With this said, take another look at the video, from the 2m15s mark and onward... What do you think?

The license change is just the most recent example of a company that no longer needs to drive adoption with claims. I wrote about the phenomenon in 2021 but it's been around for about 20 years. It is not "the end of open source", just a lifecycle stage for a VC funded software startup that was leveraging it.

My first intuition says pick a copyleft license and avoid copyright transfer agreements, but I'm not sure...
