If wins we're going to have a hell of a lot explaining to do, when we talk about this with future generations.

The man wearing no pants (in the British sense) is one thing but being called Windows95man is just an obscure historical reference too far.

The contrast of shopping in Sheffield and Tokyo couldn't be starker. In Sheffield shelves sit empty, formerly busy stores sit idle. Retail is dying.

In Japan a dizzying array of products are available with the stores full of colour and plenty on offer. Retail is alive and absolutely crazy.

Sheffield is not alone in it's decline, even Regents Street in London is now home to low value retailers. Our addiction to internet shopping has destroyed the high street.

A BIC Camera store in Tokyo, almost comically busy with enticing offers and products.

Re the cancellation of the HS2 northern leg

Sorry to tell you, Andy Street, the rest of Europe thinks UK railways are shit anyway (perhaps unjustifiably - they’re ok, not great)

You might think you’re exceptional, but no one else does

@jon the international reputation of Britain's railways is the last thing they need to worry about, when at home they are already gaining a reputation for unreliability or unavailability.

I suppose this could be deliberate, no need for High Speed Rail, if no one is using the existing Victorian infrastructure.

Having shared a single seat with my wife on a Sheffield to Manchester train just two weeks ago with constant worrying about free standing luggage. The ample foot room, luggage space and reserved seats of Shinkansen services feel like a different world.

@MattMastodon seems like a product of the Tories completely running out of ideas as they destroyed intellectual thought in the party and adjacent organisations over Brexit. Now they have to turn to chancers and lunatics for their ideas.

The reaction to joining the fediverse, is a demonstration as to why we can't have nice things.

The BBC is a cultural powerhouse which makes a huge contribution to British society, promoting a diverse range of viewpoints and content.

This should be celebrated that such an organisation has chosen to join is a great day.

The poor state of the news org is a reflection that BBC executives are appointed by politicians and its coverage, often a reflection of the worst parts of society.

Farage's banking saga is a reminder to us all just how powerful he is on the right in British politics.

Just this week he inspired two questions asked at PMQs and a nascent banking policy.

Farage also unleashed the boat crossing saga onto the national stage.

And of course both Labour and Conservatives now sing from his hymn sheet on the EU.

I can well see these pronouncements continuing and gaining strength once the Tories are out of power.

    No?

So why are you running Ubuntu 14.04 in production?

@jon it really is the Blue Tick social, it's quite impressive that they managed to bring so many schmoozers in so quickly but the whole thing is completely hollow.

Never sure how much weight to put into the results of a poll 🗳️ but it's very funny to see that is still (?) the most popular politician in the 🇬🇧

The top five are all 🔴 politicians and the current Prime Minister, 🔵 sits in sixth place.

@matt Corbyn always was either viewed as being able to walk in water or satan himself, pretty much no in-between.

The problem is his "disliked by" stat, it's still lower than Johnson's.

It's enough to hand his opponents a super majority, which is what happened in 2019.

@webuiltthiscity @ryanhoulihan Facebook feeds are basically dead now and populated by memes and content from Instagram.

If Threads is successful I can't imagine it will be long before content from it and those fediverse servers which federate with Threads will end up in Facebook feeds.
