I used to be heavy into martial arts. I’m a big guy, ex power lifter, and with a good sized belly (though the exact size has fluctuated over the years).
I was working a job where I had the freedom to set up a kind of personal dojo in the side yard while working nights. Neighbor was a smartass after seeing me work out a bit, made sumo jokes to a guy doing cutting practice. Explained the difference between sumo and what I was doing.
The guy was slow, and asked if that was like the samurai.
I said yeah, because I was doing Japanese jujutsu, iaido and general kenjutsu. You know, samurai shit.
He cracks a joke that I must be the fattest samurai in the south. Which, at the time, I was maybe 18-20% body fat, so not even close compared to a couple of guys I took classes with. I had been cutting weight pretty good for months, despite still having that bulgy belly you get when you power lift. Looked fatter than I was tbh.
Anyway, trying to keep this to the short version.
I told the story to friends, and discovered I had a new nickname, as friends do. It got shortened to southern samurai, and after I started using that as a gaming handle, it got shortened to southsamurai by character limits.

That being said, if I were to use amazon to sell them, I have three complete novels and a novella. So I would likely have to split them up over two days, and that would be horrible.
No human is going to be submitting three a day every day for long, unless they’ve been writing for decades.

I'm making a new #homebrew#dnd setting. The mistake I felt I made last time was trying to devise an orgin from whole cloth for each playable race, which wasted a TON of time and energy while also confusing my players. So, herein I wish to ask: What playable races would you miss, if you joined my table and noticed their absence?
Humans, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblinoids, and elves will all stay, but I am not sure about all the others.
Humans, always, unless you’re doing a very specific setting to exclude them.
Elves, and dwarves are so intrinsic to the idea of fantasy role play, them not being there would flummox most players, even if they didn’t want to play one.
Halflings are almost as entrenched. But you could likely get away without them and not screw with expectations as much.
Now, me personally I’m essentially forever DM. So I tend to want either a big, strong human fighter I can just go ham with, or I want to play obscure shit that never actually gets used in most groups. But even I would expect the three “core” races to be available by default in a fantasy ttrpg. Well, as playable races. I’d expect others to fight :)
In other words, you’ve already got a good list, so there’s no need to add more

Think about it. At some point everyone has had an old phone lying around. They are designed to be constantly connected, constantly on... and even have a battery and potentially still a SIM card to survive power outages.
We just need to make it easy to create APK packaged servers that can avoid battery-optimization kills and automatically configure an outbound tunnel like ngrok, zerotrust, etc...
The goal: hosting services like #nextcloud, #syncthing, #mastodon!? should be as easy as installing an APK and leaving an old phone connected to a spare charger / outlet.
It would be tempting to have an optimized ROM, but if self-hosting is meant to become more commonplace, installing an APK should be all that's needed. #Android can do SSH, VPN and other tunnels without the need for root, so there should be no problem in using tunnels to publicly expose a phone/server in a secure manner.
In regards to the suitability of home-grade broadband, I believe that it should not be a huge problem at least in Europe where home connections are most often unmetered: "At the end of June 2021, 70.2% of EU homes were passed by either FTTP or cable DOCSIS
3.1 networks, i.e. those technologies currently capable of supporting gigabit speeds."
PS. syncthing actually already has an APK and is easy to use. Although I had to sort out some battery optimization stuff, it's a good example of what should become much more commonplace.
I mean, android is fine I guess, but it’s being pushed to be less and less able to be separated from Google. I think for a lot of people interested in self hosting, there’s a low amount of interest in it because of that.
I am tempted to start using the @Vivaldi browser but then I looked* at the diversity in the underlying technology and I think it is better to promote and start using @firefox :firefox: more.
Or should we leave it to #Google :omya_google: and #Apple :apple_inc: only❓

Almost all of the common chromium based browsers, but only mainline firefox.
Anyway, it’s definitely a good thing to use more than just the chrome based browsers for the exact reason you said.
However, vivaldi is a decent choice for when you need to. Yeah, their ui isn’t open source, but it really doesn’t matter in real world use. The only other option for me is ungoogled chromium, and cromite on android.
On android, my main browser is mull, with Iibrewolf on PC. I can’t say any non chromium browsers are perfect on android, but mull is plenty fast and does everything you want it to do, and doesn’t do what you don’t want.
Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don't get much from my choices. It still did a pretty good job of showing me stuff I was interested in watching.
Then on Oct 1, they threw up a "You're using an Ad Blocker" overlay on videos. I'd use my trusty Overlay Remover plugin to remove the annoying javascript graphic and watch what I wanted. I didn't have to click the X to dismiss the obnoxious page.
Last week, they started placing a timer with the X so you had to wait 5 seconds for the X to appear so you could dismiss blocking graphic.
Today, there was a new graphic. It allowed you to view three videos before you had to turn off your Ad Blocker. I viewed a video 3 times just to see what happens.
Now all I see is this page.
Google has out and out made it a violation of their ToS to have an ad blocker to view Youtube. Or you can pay them $$$.
I ban such sites from my systems by replacing their DNS name in my hosts file routed to 127.0.0.1 which means I can't view the site. I have quite a few banned sites now.
What’s bad is that it was them being obnoxious as fuck with ads that made everyone start going out of their way to block them. Like, their ads are so bad and intrusive that people are willing to jump through revanced hoops to avoid them. Mind you, those hoops aren’t that difficult, but it’s more time and effort than just using it without.
Google brought in the era of hyper targeted ads and fucked the internet up.
