I wish there was something like a dating app, except for everything besides romantic stuff. For example finding people for hobbies, or just to see a movie together.

Couldn't this work?

Really playing Super Metroid for the first time, I'm surprised at how good it is. It doesn't feel like a 30 year old game.

It manages to guide the player so well through level design, but still always requires and rewards thorough exploration.

So you have to really engage with the world, and that in turn makes the atmosphere so much stronger. (+ the awesome music)

Such good design, it must have been mind-blowing for people who played it back in 94

What if point and click games were instead called "Pick 'em up"?

Like shoot 'em up or beat 'em up, but since you often collect so many items...? The idea sprang into my head when I woke up in the middle of last night.

No? ... ok, maybe not.

So, the Mario movie had a simple story, but nice visuals and fun setpieces.

Detective Pikachu had solid characters and story, probably because it wasn't too stringent with the pokemon formula.

But Sonic?
Script full of clichees, but also visually not interesting / fun, no internal logic etc.
As if the inital "ugly sonic" design already betrayed the bad taste of the movie's producers.

Is "Sonic is fast" all there is to it? At least Jim Carrey's Eggman performance was fun.

We used to play such elaborate pranks on our friends back in school. Like replacing the windows startup sound with a sound file that started with an extremely long silence. Then, after a while, some obnoxious noise would start to play, seemingly for no reason. Weren't we clever?

I was going through some old files the other day and rediscovered a peculiar video that I thought had been lost. Now I can’t for the life of me find it again and starting to seriously believe my mind made something up?!

Originally made this as a fanart for Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, and the version below got used as a loading screen, which I'm very happy about.

the searing ray hits the gnoll!

It's quite a fast paced game, once you get into it. Start scorching gnolls today!

Made this a while ago as practice. There must have been a photo reference but I don't have it anymore.
It's nothing special, but for some reason I like how it's missing a subject, haha :yes_cat:

That's Mae from Night in the Woods and the squirrel thing from Rain World. (I'll go back to that game... eventually)

No idea about the size relations of these characters.
Probably Mae's "nightmare eyes" should have been a lot bigger, I missed that chance.

It's strange, playing offline in / feel much more lonely, even though I'm 99% alone anyhow.

Of course, it's due to the absence of messages and bloodstains.
Those make the games a lot more light hearted, and make me feel safer. Without them, the atmosphere is more opressive and scarier.

Interestingly, I only feel that way because I've been conditioned to expect the messages everywhere, whereas other games don't have them in the first place, so there's nothing to miss.

When playing a shooter on with trackpad, I saw a suggestion to use the left trigger for firing.
It makes a lot of sense, not only considering the SDs size and the strain it puts on thumb + index finger to have to stretch so far, but also in regards to precise movement of the thumb.

It makes me wonder why not all games have the trigger on the left. Seems like there could be merit even when aiming with the stick. (At which I'm awful anyhow.)

This was the first animation I made, around 2017. I was creating a platformer kind of game. The final sprite became much smaller of course, but I recently rediscovered some of the original sized files.

She can use the umbrella to float in mid-air (think Mario's cape) and it also conceals a blade to attack iaido style.

Perhaps a bit of a strange contribution but…
the way they’re eagerly brandishing the hammer and drill makes me worried for the sleeping (?) cat 😳

also a bit I guess?

The worm's body is filled mostly by its tongue, so when it attacks (with the tongue, of course) the body goes flat like a balloon.

Started playing again, it's been a while.
The early Fallouts are wonderful in that they give you a lot of options playing pacifist, but I watered it down to "totally unfit for combat".
(More thoughts on character setup in the alt-texts)

I'll try to limit save/load, so I'll have to be very careful with combat encounters, since when a companion dies I prohibited myself from reloading.

Failing a steal check makes the entire area hostile; still thinking about how to deal with that...

Stats for the main character Momo at Lvl2. Most combat stats are extremely low, but Int and Charisma are maxed. Agility helps with running away / not getting hit, and perception, while useful for shooting, is also generally helpful iirc. There are two NPCs that teach some unarmed combat in the early areas, so that's at 50%. I put the Skill Points from the first level up into Lockpicking, but still can't open some of the doors in the first town.

So, both text adventures (Zork etc) and CRPGs (Ultima, Wizardry etc) came around late 70s early 80s.
But I've never seen a hybrid of the two. I mean an Infocom style puzzle/adventure game, but with combat, items etc.
Or a dungeon crawler with the flavorful exploration and puzzles of a text adventure.

It seems like a good fit, and closer to P&P than the pure hack & slays of the time. So why wasn't this ever a thing?

Played some on that physical table you might have seen: http://kck.st/2mnPIcm

A fun idea, but the controls are sluggish as hell. Rotating the handle hardly moves your paddle, unless you give it a good spin. But if you do, there's some delay to come to a halt. Very difficult and frustrating. Hmm, perhaps with a lot more practice?

After at most 2-3 bounces, one player scored. So the match was over very quickly. And then the winner doesn't even get to keep playing on the same coin… ( ̄^ ̄)

Anyone else get this "virtuous procrastination"? You ought to do something but don't want to, but slacking off makes you feel bad... so you stall by doing "useful" stuff like cleaning the house as a way to procrastinate while not feeling too bad about it. :blobfoxgoogly:

Oof, Blood Fresh Supply is soo difficult, I can't get past the 2nd stage!

Cultists may take out ~50% of my HP the second they come into view. 😱
No ammo + hordes of axe-zombies means I get impatient and get hurt when I have to take them out with the pitchfork.

Level 1 has 11 secrets, but I've found only 5 so far.
1-2 seconds within the FOV of a cultist or two can totally end an attempt. ( ˙-˙ )

I wonder , is the enjoyment of a game always colored by when it was released?
For example, I played some Portopia Serial Murder Case, a game originally from '83 and it was interesting to see the roots of the genre.
So I'm enjoying it. But is that really for the games own merits, or is it due to it's historical significance? I feel like if I found the exact same game as a free indie title, I wouldn't bother with it... which makes me feel a bit hypocritical to enjoy it.

My DnD char (a bard) casting the spell psychic lance, or how I imagine it would look like.

Animation testing / practice. Quite rough and unfinished, but it's too tedious to really draw out and color all 27 frames, plus I feel like the charge-up and blast could have had some better impact.

Hi, I'm here to talk about games, movies and whatnot, post my drawings, fanart, comics etc. and see your creations or ideas.

Interested in video game history & trivia, and lesser known / obscure titles that stand out in some way.
Also thinking waaay too much about what makes things fun, or not so fun, and what if, and why, why not and so on...

"If you spend your time playing games, why not play an NFT game instead?" is what a friend said to me.

That's hard to swallow.

She suggested an Animal Crossing clone (2 star rating on app store).
We could water each other's plants (and maybe watch commercials together?)

I'm sure, whatever appeal there is to Animal Crossing—it's not in "that" game.

But I'm still shocked by the statement. I know, playing games is wasting time (or is it?), but ... but but but...
