I feel like everyone I know somehow got COVID this week (including me, for the first time). Did you also get COVID this week?

swan_tower,
@swan_tower@wandering.shop avatar

@annaleen I am hoping my "no" vote remains true -- turns out I had an exposure on Sunday, so now I'm Schroedinger's Infected Cat. I've dodged it this long; I don't want to break that streak!

Got up at Horrible O'Clock this morning despite my natural tendency to sleep until 8, and went for a sunrise dip with my swimming group. Totally worth it but I also won't be doing it again anytime soon.

swan_tower,
@swan_tower@wandering.shop avatar

@csharpwords I generally only want to see a sunrise from the other side, and then go to sleep. But that's undeniably lovely!

Goofy Kid Question as suggested by @AirlockDoc

What was the dumbest thing you did as a child?

swan_tower,
@swan_tower@wandering.shop avatar

@LadyDragonfly That is amazing! I got to play with him once, very briefly -- a church concert (service? I don't remember) for a church I didn't even attend, but they needed musicians, and I got tapped. After he played his piece he just parked himself among the cellists for the rest of the event. They must have been having a collective aneurysm; I know I was, from ~two rows behind them! From what I saw of his behavior, your story sounds exactly right.

Can anybody tell me whether Mastodon has a built-in way to switch between different accounts? I run our M.A. Carrick account over on Twitter, and would like to set up one here, too, but I can't see how to manage it other than logging out and in all the time, or keeping a different browser open. Am I missing something?

@Alon Unpack that for me? The ww3real you linked to appears to be a fiction account . . .

@Alon Ah, interesting! I hadn't thought of doing it that way.

Anybody want to place bets on how many thousands of words I've written so far on AMA answers? (Time frame was slightly more than three hours of responding.)

@Alon I am a wordy mofo, aren't I? :-D Actual answer right now is 7K.

@Sheril Very glad to see a decision that pushes back against the death bet of "well, we won't be around to see the effects of this, so who cares." What happened to trying to leave the world a better place for future generations?

@sundaypix If I can be forgiven two entries for , I have a pair of very different offerings! This first one I think of as the "ghost bird" I attempted to capture on (digital) film at Westminster Abbey . . .

@sundaypix And then my second offering for is this cheerfully absurd fellow from a Teotihuacan museum exhibit!

@herhandsmyhands @romancelandia Given that the site's analysis thinks "that's" is a helping verb and the emotional arc of a story can be charted by counting words like "grasses" and "feed," the utility on offer there was marginal at best. No great loss . . .

This is your reminder that in 1965, the average CEO was paid 21x more than a typical worker.

In 2020, it was 351x.

Is what they're doing today sixteen times more valuable than it was sixty years ago? Are we all benefiting sixteen times as much from their efforts?

Film studios: Pirating films is bad because it prevents all the hardworking people who make these films from being paid.

Also film studios: Streaming is good because it prevents all the hardworking people who made these films from being paid, except us.

@rodhilton I'm not saying I'm going to pirate a movie and then donate what I would have paid for it to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, but the thought did cross my mind . . .

How about, instead of funneling more money toward a company (Amazon. I mean Amazon.) that abuses its workers and is killing bookstores, we celebrate with free shipping from https://bookshop.org/ instead?
