Hi folks! Former chair of @ThePSF Conduct Working Group with a message that might be timely!

If you see a member of the community behaving against the spirit or the letter of the CoC, especially if the comments are in public about an official event, especially if using a hashtag, please report to conduct-wg@python.org as you are comfortable.

The WG might not be able to take action due to the CoC’s scope, but its useful background for the inevitable next incident.

Thanks! ✨

Logging in to take a look at some talks on the online platform for , even though I'm done with the conference now, I just noticed that the attendee dashboard has a section for "sponsor badge scans", giving transparency over which sponsors got my contact details. That is a really nice touch, thank you @ThePSF .

Here's one thing I don't like about how software people write documentation:

If A is a type of X and B is a type of X, there's a preference to separate X into its own definition elsewhere (like deduplicating code by putting it in a function). But this means the explanation of A or B is incomplete, because you have to click to learn what X is. If X is a type of Y, now you have to click again to figure out Y. You just wanted to learn what B was, but now you have to learn everything.

Oy! Today, it's the 10 year anniversary for #Django PR#2692 🥳

It's definitely worth celebrating how the good forces were victorious against all the loud mouth conservatives/trolls. Since my office is full today, I might need to get both a primary cake and a replica cake for redundancy 🍰

Congrats and thanks to @fcurella and everyone else involved in this.

The highlights of for me was the neurodivergent open space. I'd encourage anyone to do something similar at a conference that has open spaces: If you haven't found your people, but know they are there, reserve an open space for a bit for them to meet. They probably want to meet you as much as you want to meet them!

"If you haven't found your people, but know they are there, reserve an open space for a bit for them to meet. They probably want to meet you as much as you want to meet them!"

@joelle: this is an excellent description of open spaces!

BoFs (birds of a feather sessions) sounds a bit opaque, but I like that term for this reason.

Meetup organizers, brand new coders, Ruby to Python transplants, etc. Whoever your people are, it's worth putting an open space on the board to find them!

It's midnight over here, which means around 3 am in Pittsburgh (yikes if you're reading this right now).

Did you know that there is an "open space" in the PyCon US Online Platform which will include a couple of talks from some of the attendees?

Yup. Even me... I'm even interrupting my preparation just to tell you that!

Check out the online app starting at 10:30 am (local time in Pittsburgh) to check it out!

No worries!

So after me nagging him for a year or more @mathsppblog has finally seen the light regarding Mastodon! (Unlikely because of me, but I’ll take the win).

He’s not tooted yet, but if is your thing I highly recommend you follow my fellow ex- developer and one of the 67%.

He sometimes does some maths stuff too I believe. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a goal. In the next 4 hours we’re going to share our story and I want to see if we can raise $5500 at #PyConUS in that time.

https://blackpythondevs.com/#support

This will cover one of our initiatives for 2024. That I will breakdown after we hit it!! Just know that hundreds of developers around the globe will be positively impacted.

Out of curiosity, I searched for the hashtag on Mastodon and Twitter and scrolled back 16 hours and started counting posts. 🤔

I counted:

87 posts on Twitter on the PyCon hashtag 🐦

134 posts on Mastodon on the PyCon hashtag 🐘

The PyCon conversations have finally moved (mostly) to Mastodon! 🙌

Not a HUGE difference, but enough that I felt like there was more activity and decided to confirm my suspicion. 💗
