I want to go back to bed

tyil,

@dwarf You can!

tyil,

@dwarf You need to go to work office to get more money?!

tyil,

@dwarf That's a lot of days, especially given your work can be done from pretty much any place with a stable Internet connection. I've been able to stick to a strict no-office policy for a while now, I hope my company doesn't get more incompetent managers demanding my physical presence at a specific far-off location.

Recruiters! If the first paragraph on your site talks about your defence contracting work, it is not going to be a good fit

tyil,

@mjg59 Be happy they put it in the first paragraph, that saves you from reading the rest of the page

«Despite the privacy concerns, Microsoft says that the Recall index remains local and private on-device, encrypted in a way that is linked to a particular user's account. "Recall screenshots are only linked to a specific user profile and Recall does not share them with other users, make them available for Microsoft to view, or use them for targeting advertisements. Screenshots are only available to the person whose profile was used to sign in to the device," Microsoft says.»

So, trust me bro?

tyil,

@hfaust

So, trust me bro?

That's always the case with proprietary software, nothing special about this new "AI" grift for them.

nixCraft, to linux
@nixCraft@mastodon.social avatar

Satya Nadella says Windows PCs will have a photographic memory feature called Recall that will remember and understand everything you do on your computer by taking constant screenshots. This is a great reason to ditch windows altogether. Switch to 🧑‍💻 They don’t care about your privacy or safety anymore and not hiding it either. tyil,

@nixCraft Remember? Maybe. But understanding? That's hopefully a joke.

I'm sorry Slack, you're doing fucking WHAT with user DMs, messages, files, etc? I'm positive I'm not reading this correctly.

tyil,

@f4grx @Viss @gsuberland @Quinnypig There never was a private company you could trust for that to begin with. If you want to have any control, you host your own solutions using completely free software.

Classic Winamp is going ?

tyil,

@vl1 It only states the source code is going to be available, not that its going to be free software. Those two things are very different, and going by how they're not really giving out much info, I'm inclined to believe it's not going to be free.

Do I order in or cook something sloppy

tyil,

@dwarf Cook something yourself!

tyil,

@dwarf Didn't you have canned food you can heat up, and cook some rice to go with it?

tyil,

@dwarf This is the adult life, we have to accept things we don't want all the time. Like taxes.

tyil,

@dwarf I wish I was rich like that!

tyil,

@cnx @dwarf Canned food is great, it has a tremendous shelf life and they're mostly beans, the best vegetable! I have dozens of cans of beans and bags of rice in case I need some quick food, I can survive for months on this stuff

cassidy, to android
@cassidy@blaede.family avatar

Ugh. Pocket Git, another long time favorite Android app of mine, has disappeared from the Play Store—without an obvious replacement.

I don’t want to start developing Android apps, but dang, I could really use replacements for these:

• Straightforward git client (explicitly not an IDE)
• Package tracker that supports multiple carriers

I’ll design them if someone else can develop them? 😝

tyil,

@cassidy Don't rely on a "store" owned by a giant corporate that wants nothing but total and complete control over you and your devices. Don't trust anything by one of those entities, I'd argue.

It looks like Pocket Git is proprietary too, at least I don't see any means to get to its source, so that may have been a big mistake too. Not sure why there's an OpenSource hashtag in your post if it's about proprietary software in a proprietary ecosystem, though.

I do see a huge list of gambling scam sites referred at the bottom of Pocket Git's website, for some reason. I don't think I want to know more about this software or its developer, nor support it in any way further by giving advice...

Got my new keyboard, it's nice. the keys are silky smooth and make a satisfying clunk noise when they go down.

Yes I'm going to clean my mouse

tyil,

@sun @kaia QMK is great tbh, you can do many cool things with it. To get real benefits it takes a while getting used to a few things, though, but I definitely would not want to go back to a keyboard without it.

tyil,

@thurrott Yeah but qemu has been actually free (as in freedom) since forever

tyil,

@vhns @thurrott True, I didn't think that part needed mentioning as is always better than some proprietary shitshow

tyil,

@thurrott @vhns The best solution is to not be using MacOS.

Freedom trumps convenience every time, hence FOSS is always better. That you got yourself stuck to be a slave of a corporation is not the fault of free software not being good enough, that's a personal choice you made.

Saddening me time and again is seeing individualism and fragmentation in .

between projects that's so often low-hanging fruit, yet never happens. More anticipation of needs, helping each other, be stronger together. Yet it hardly shapes up to the extent that it could.

We seem to lack time to become sustainable, let alone 'win' from . No time to seek collab as we prod on alone.

There are exceptions of course, and better collab tools are becoming available.

tyil,

@smallcircles

better collab tools are becoming available

This makes no difference if new projects actively choose to go for proprietary platforms instead, and then make up excuses afterwards as to why this choice is supposedly valid.

The community needs to understand that they need to actually use free software where possible, or collaboration will be never work out.

🤔 skipping the daily standup to do actual work. Why didn't I think of this sooner?

tyil,

@dwarf You guys are doing standups?

tyil,

@dwarf My team has unanimously decided that if we need a standup, we'll do a standup. Its been a couple months since the last one.
