creideiki, to firefox WTF is wrong with the people at #Mozilla? I don’t care how much they say they’ve anonymized the personal data #Firefox grabs - this just makes them look like every other privacy-invading enshittified company.

Having an understanding of what types of searches happen most frequently will give us a better understanding of what’s important to our users […]
Here’s what’s important to me, as your user: that you don’t spy on my personal activity. You can have that one for free, and nothing else.

adelgado, to firefox I'm having a hell of a day with Firefox today (and part of yesterday). Since 126.0 was released many websites make Firefox crash (for example opening images here in Mastodon but also a Grafana dashboard and others). All in Gnome with Wayland and Ubuntu 24.04. Are other people having the same issues?
#Firefox #Ubuntu #Wayland #Gnome
adelgado, @plaimbock not much info in the terminal, basically just generate a dump
adelgado, @plaimbock I think I messed something up while installing other desktop managers and adjusting Wayland because all versions of Firefox crashed. So I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 (before I did an upgrade from 23.10 that was upgraded from 22 that is not a great idea). So now it's fix

jomo, (edited ) to firefox Mozilla "privacy first" Firefox will send Mozilla anything you type into the search bar, location data, and whether you clicked on a suggestion.
They use this to show you search suggestions, including ads.
This is from 2021
https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-news/firefox-suggest/They now want to collect more data on what you click on:
https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-search-update/
Quenti, to firefox French Oh oh la nouvelle version de #Firefox apporte ça : «the zstd directive of the Content-Encoding HTTP header is now supported, allowing decoding of server-sent content encoded with the #Zstandard compression algorithm».
Sympa comme amélioration !

ValerieSonh, to firefox #Firefox starts new data-gathering program https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-search-update/ The article explains how to opt out. "Same" privacy indeed. 😐 #privacy #telemetry
jaseg, @ValerieSonh I think the data collection that they describe in the article is fine. They're clearly not out to build profiles, and the categorical information that they collect doesn't leak anything relevant.
nosherwan, @ValerieSonh I had to do the same from chrome, now Firefox too...
Updating permissions on Firefox for Android
I’m getting an alert that BitWarden needs a new permission on my devices, but can’t figure out how to do that, clicking on the alert simply opens Firefox and I can’t find anything in settings or add ons, so how does one do this?
boilingsteam, to firefox Firefox is going to do more telemetry... again! this time on your web searches. https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-search-update/
the battle to make Firefox go to zero market share continues. well done Mozilla for knowing how to read a room.
#firefox #telemetry
ronald, @boilingsteam ah is @thunderbird also going to be “privately” reading my mails now?
thunderbird,
chris_hayes, to firefox Firefox's newest update introduces a "Copy Without Site Tracking" context menu button.
I feel like I'm in the minority of users that painstakingly removes tracking params on every link I share, so this is a really nice QoL improvement.

dbtechyt, @chris_hayes I always try to remember to remove the tracking stuff, but I'm glad they're taking a more proactive approach

iamdtms, @matt Print stylesheets FTW! ;)
matt, @iamdtms because I had a creative cloud subscription at some point, I always disabled PDFs from opening in the browser at all and just had them immediately download. :pepe_fine:
