A decision to fire an elementary school teacher from Georgia has been upheld, after she read a children’s book on gender identity to her fifth-grade class earlier this year....
I'm not bothered by it being federated with kbin, and if I don't like it, I should be able to ban the whole domain on my account on kbin. So I hope he doesn't give in to peer pressure to preemptively defederate with them before I can see what they are about.
Having the freedom to make my own choices like a fucking adult is why I'm here instead of Lemmy.
Think about things from the point of view of someone who has never used Reddit or the fediverse, but you've heard about them both from recent news articles and want to see what they are about....
I think most of us who moved here from Reddit are enjoying our time here on kbin.social. We've left a lot of the riff-raff behind us and made new friends with intelligent, thoughtful members of kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.....
This blog post by Ploum, who was part of the original XMPP efforts long ago, describes how Google killed one great federated service, which shows why the Fediverse must not give Meta the chance
The more people see the engagement, the more chance of them asking "what is that?" It won't be long until the apps are better, and links to articles could be less likely to get suppressed than migration memes....

It’s been a wild week for the open social web (dev.to)
OC Full, expanded list of all the data points and their purposes that Meta's Threads collect and link to user accounts. It's even more insane than you might've thought.
OC Fediverse won't replace Reddit as long as Lemmy is the main platform being promoted

The official app is hot garbage
On a whim I decided to give the official app a try because a lot of people will be forced to use it, if they decide to stay on Reddit....
Reddit Sync will have a full page sign up for his new app, Lemmy Sync, when you open the app on June 30th (also kbin support coming!) (www.reddit.com)

I really like it here. However, almost 90% of my feed is either posts about Reddit, or Lemmy/kbin meta analysis. We need actual content and communities over here!
And yes I understand the irony in this post
