Why do I feel like we're making the same mistakes with bird flu that we did with covid?

Dismissing this case with "oh he had chronic conditions" is extremely dangerous. Not to mention the fact that there's a lot of people who have multiple underlying health conditions.

As we learn more about (especially at night) and human , it's becoming apparent that we need more direct of the light exposures people actually get.

van Duijnhoven et al. just published a nice review of available wearable devices: https://www.techrxiv.org/users/785068/articles/958417-overview-of-wearable-light-loggers-state-of-the-art-and-outlook

JohnBarentine,
@JohnBarentine@astrodon.social avatar

The Windred et al. paper is one of the first I have seen that tries to measure light exposures directly instead of guessing what they are, and does so with a very large sample size. Their conclusion seems stronger to me, for that reason.

JohnBarentine,
@JohnBarentine@astrodon.social avatar

Note: this is still mostly seen in people receiving light indoors. The next frontier is to put wearable devices on people when they’re in outdoor spaces. We would also like to know the color of the light to which they’re exposed, which requires more sophisticated wearable tech.

A local judge was caught drunk driving, and claimed this was the cause. I never heard the outcome (or forgot it if I did) of the investigation.

@ai6yr
I was a reporter covering the incident. The "auto-brewery" excuse never made it into our report (PDF link: https://www.courts.wa.gov/content/publicupload/eclips/7.29.13%20DSN.pdf)

She got her punishment, according to the Yakima paper:

https://www.yakimaherald.com/news/local/state-panel-to-charge-granger-judge-with-conduct-violations-over-dui-traffic-stop/article_9f02379f-7793-5f9c-8ef6-b3ac8b6cc056.html

There's quite a lot of coverage of her arrest and such, because she attempted to talk the cop out of arresting her by telling him repeatedly that she's a judge.

I remember going to her courtroom to take her photo for our coverage.

Prostate Cancer is life changing, if you've survived. Symptoms vary. I put down a sore lower back that wouldn't go away to just lifting too much.
Three months later I had a radical prostatectomy. The doctor didn't mess around when I finally decided that I should go see him.
This spit test could save millions of men. Their sons, grandsons and right through their line of heritage.
Let's hope further trial evaluation proves it's superiority over PSA tests which are not 100% reliable.

So Junior Doctors will be striking just before the election having lost patience with the lack of any progress in pay negotiations, to match the reassurances the were given when they paused previous strike action.

Rishi Sunak claims this looks 'politically motivated'; only in the sense that he & his familiars have failed to deliver any repair of doctors' standard of living.

This is part of Tory engineered health crisis that itself is politically motivated!

"Clatsop County Public Health Alert: Multiple Reports of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP)

2024-05-28 18:50:39 PDT

There have been multiple reports of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning from eating mussels harvested in the area from the Washington border to Seal Rock State Recreation Site. Mussels picked since Saturday must be thrown away, as cooking or freezing them does not kill the toxins. Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning can be deadly, especially for children. Appropriate medical care can lessen the risk of death. Do not feed these mussels to pets."

Maine’s #Health Department Rarely Investigates When Residents Wander Away From Their Care Facilities

Elopement — when a resident wanders out of a care home — is a real risk, particularly for people with dementia.

But in the vast majority of cases in #Maine, the facilities are never inspected and rarely sanctioned.

@ProPublica @KimPerales With modern electronics there is just no excuse. Alarms on the doors and people who are in danger when leaving the facility can wear unobtrusive proximity sensors if their Team deems it necessary. One problem that arises is when a memory care unit just demands too much even for enhanced staffing ratios. My experience is that legislatures cut resources until something horrible happens and then they blame the staff and increase resources (or a court monitor forces it).

Been thinking a lot about health lately. Not as some thin white lady doing pilates, or some ripped dude who won't shut up about cross-fit.

But like, what does it ACTUALLY mean, and why is it important? Specifically, what would living in a more healthful way look like for me? Where I find myself is in a place that health is divorced from weight.

I don't care about weightloss. The things that bother me about my size are society's problems - not mine.

BluRae,

@MsHearthWitch Yeah, most instructors don't seem well versed in modifications, unfortunately, even though modifications exist for most poses.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@BluRae Yeah and a lot of instructors frame them similar to injury recovery as like "You do this until you're able to do it properly" instead of "This is the proper way to do it for your body."

If that difference makes sense?
