If a theoretician write "we use experimentally feasible parameters", what they mean is that they are using numbers that are just two or three orders of magnitude away from what is considered reasonable by experimentalists. #Physics
Fusa Miyake discovered that cosmic events that cause brief 14C spikes in the atmosphere are recorded in tree rings and was able to correlate this to precise historical years (now known as Miyake events)
This allows radio dating of historical events to single year precision.😮 #physics#history
General #phd thoughts: significant developments in the viability of my distributed systems agenda in the past month now have me seriously considering applying this fall. (This is one of the short list of things I would go back into #CS to do).
Specifically, I'm probably >80% confident I can self-fund on this.
I also may be strong enough in quantum error-correction at this point to consider applying to some #physics programs, but I've got more work to do there.
This is the best hour-long rant a #physics PhD ever delivered about #stringtheory and #SciComm while simultaneously playing Binding of Isaac in order to help stay focused on her talk
"string theory lied to us and now science communication is hard" by Dr. Angela Collier
Interesting study on transgender athletic performance by medical physicist Joanna Harper, who is transgender. Her work is groundbreaking, serving as a data-backed retort to the myth that transgender women have an unfair advantage in sports. And she, herself, is a runner.
This periodic table, by Michael Diyah, allows to control and see the variation between the physical properties of each element. Play with it, your students will love it!!
#NMROnline has a growing software library, with titles integrated into seamless and efficient workflows, built with industry standards and best practices.
Teaser: we just got a really cool theoretical physics paper accepted in Phys. Rev. Letters. I am totally excited and I will explain in a few weeks why 😉 #Astrodon#physics#theoreticalphysics
It is YEARS since I used noweb, but maybe I could use it again, say for ports to other languages than C of program06 (my program that VIOLATES BELL INEQUALITIES despite having nothing resembling the non-existent ‘entanglement’).
(If you are a #physics nerd and yet uninterested in the non-existence of all that spooky stuff they claim quantum mechanics entails, then there is nothing I can do to help you.
You aren’t REALLY as interested in the nature of reality as you fool yourself into thinking.)
Also #Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of #MaxPlanck, a brilliant physicist and gifted musician. His contributions to physics were unparalleled, and his love for creativity and intellectual pursuit continues to inspire us today.
A black hole can elongate after strong rotation, stretching out and becoming oblate rather than circular. Happy #caturday#physics from a VERY rapidly spinning Quasar 🐈⬛
