Do birds have a sense of smell?

I ask because I swear a little tiny bird just landed on a branch outside my window and scared itself.

I am writing by an open window and enjoying the breeze and the sun light as it streams in. I have a giant tree that overshadows the window, I think it's called a spruce tree. I love the way it smells and looks it is amazing and a key feature of the purchase.

So this little bird sits on a branch for about half a second and then chirped a sharp and loud chirp and absolutely flapped birdy wings straight away from the window.

I am laughing imagining the bird landing to see what was going on inside that house and getting a wiff of giant swamp panther and just absolutely losing his little birdy mind in panic and fear to dash away.

While we’re discussing bird behavior, I had a weird experience yesterday.
I was walking down the middle of a quiet street when I noticed wings flapping close behind me. As I went to look, I saw a mockingbird fly up to a nearby tree on the edge of the street & thought he’d just dipped too low when he flew from the electric wire to the tree. But then it happened again, and again and again — always close to the back of my head like a scene from Hitchcock’s “The Birds.” And no, there wasn’t a nest anywhere nearby.
The only thing I could think of is my ponytail of white hair—maybe it wanted a strand for a nest or something.

Ah, I just read an article that says mockingbirds especially see white as a danger sign cuz they have white wing patches to scare rivals & predators away. So maybe it was my white hair & I was being attacked for being on that bird’s territory!

I'm bone tired from doing more packing, but believe it or not, I packed all my clothes except what I'll need for the next 9 days, cleaned out my entire closet. I'm very proud of myself.

Ps—Selfishly I realized I’m worried that you’ll lose interest in goings on “south of the border” here, and I won’t have you as one of my main sources of news.
Of course, moving to Ireland hasn’t daunted @emptywheel from her enlightening commentary on US politics etc. I guess the US is such a “Bigfoot” in the world, it’s smart to keep tabs on us.

I don't understand CWing political posts. And that doesn't mean you need to @ me explaining why. I know THEIR reasons, I just disagree with them and won't do it.

I respect CWs for other things, but not politics. Politics is news and people need to be aware of what's happening. It's not gory or violent, it's politics.

As you probably know, I diligently read your threads (esp. on the trump legal proceedings); sometimes in real time, others after they’ve occurred (like now I’m catching up on yesterday & ran across this follower’s nitpick).

It’d be a tremendous asspain to have to open a content warning for each post, and especially when I must catch up reading your posts in order. I’d be continually losing my place & probably just give up & rely on unreliable msm narrative.

If I were into conspiracy theories, I’d say this demand for CW was an attempt to deter us from reading the actual trial proceedings that you so thoroughly cover!

It’s your page and your posts and there’s nothing offensive, except the fact of trump’s disgusting existence. Good on you for saying no way!

  • There is no food or coffee allowed inside ctrm, means reporters have not eaten or had anything to drink (unless they brought water bottle) since 8:30 am- it's 2:30 pm

-No cellphones or reading material allowed

  • Bathroom brks are ~5 min for 20 reporters
  • Reporters are confined to ctrm: not allowed to get up, talk to ea other (besides quick whispers) or check phones til floor is cleared - for ex court broke at 2 but still inside the courtroom
