Dinner last night was at inside the .

We found out that they've had a new bread that's been available since last Thanksgiving - sweet potato bread, with apricot butter and cranberry relish. Gorgeous and delicious. Both accompaniments were so good. A much better offering than the prior focaccia bread.

Washington Apple martini with yet a different garnish - I've never gotten a dried slice of apple before. 1/4

For my third course, I had the "Smiling Tiger Salad" - spicy beef, shrimp fritters, and lemongrass-coconut vinaigrette. Been loving this dish ever since we had it for the first time in a vintner's menu, and then they added it to the regular menu.

My second cappuccino of the night but this time, it didn't have mushrooms in it. 😀 But I got biscotti on the side!!!! 3/4

They were kind enough to add a little extra on my dessert, which was the chocolate mousse cake with chocolate ice cream.

We didn't finish our bread so took the rest home. I don't remember the pretty logoed bag but we rarely have leftovers from there.

Lots of fun interaction with the staff and other diners. Such a terrific evening. 4/4

So they have a special shirt for for that features some of the food kiosks, including artichokes and avocados, which aren't part of this year's festival. Did foods and merchandising not talk to each other, so that merchandising didn't know that foods wasn't featuring those two booths this year? 1/2

Lunch yesterday was at fka at . I finally had a chance to try the chicken sesame-ginger vegetable noodles (grilled chicken, stir-fried vegetables, noodles, sesame-ginger sauce, cilantro and scallions). I really enjoyed this, with good flavors and textures among the ingredients. I'm always a sucker for a good ginger sauce, and this one was really tasty. FYI, this dish is also offered without the chicken.) /1

and several people never actually got called to get their food and had to get in line to get it manually fixed. But you could see that many trays of food were sitting on the back counter, so it was clear that the orders had been filled and were just sitting there, and when they went to get someone's order, they had to search amongst the trays of food to find the right order. That also meant that for many, their food had been sitting out for some time, so it had become lukewarm at best. /3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

Previously, when your number was called and you got to the front of the line, they would then go grab the items you ordered. The process worked fine. Yesterday, it was like they were fulfilling the orders but then not telling people their food was ready, so the food just sat there. I hope the system gets fixed quickly. Breaking a working system seems an odd choice. /4 end

Last night, I was able to pick up the new straw clip for a friend. He's super cute, but it turns out you could only buy one if you bought a beverage too. There was no indication of that in the announcement nor on the app, and none of the prior straw clips required a beverage purchase that I can recall. It seems pretty crappy to take advantage of Stitch's popularity to require you to purchase a beverage you might not want just to buy this.

troy,
@troy@opencoaster.net avatar

@cstephens2 you can just get it without a drink via mobile order at galactic grill at least

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

@troy Are you sure that's possible? It's not on mobile order now, but I'm not sure if it's because they're out of the clip right now. They were out of them at Disneyland last night.

It wasn't available on mobile order at Award Weiners last night, but I could buy it from standing in line.

So with regard to the offer for at this year, I thought it was interesting that they went digital with the "tabs". It's a good environmental move, doing away with all the plastic tabs that got thrown away, but it also enabled them to process everything in one transaction, presumably using the Disney Dining Plan system. 1/3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

Previously, if you bought an item using a Sip and Savor tab, you had to do a separate transaction if you wanted to buy something, like water, that doesn't utilize a tab. In this instance, I had one Sip and Savor item and also the burrito, and they could process everything together, and your receipt shows you your remaining balance of "tabs". 2/3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

The pass has a barcode on the back that they scan after you order, and there's also a code (like the security code on your credit card) that you enter into the pin pad to validate use of the pass. Makes for a very smooth process. I expect they'll be using this for all future festivals where is offered. 3/3

Dinner last night at included me succumbing to trying the char siu-style ribs from for with . It was really good, and the meat was very tender, and the sauce wasn't too sweet, though I love regular char siu sauce. I also appreciated that they chose meaty cuts of rib. 1/2

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

I liked the scallions but I'm honestly baffled by the choice to include roasted peanuts on top. The ribs don't need a crunch element, and all the peanuts do is make this an unnecessarily inedible dish for anyone with a peanut allergy. 2/2

@ai6yr Wow. I can’t remember the last time the OC Disney closed early..,

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

Noticed that both and are both closing early today, likely because of the SoCal storm. Disneyland was supposed to close at 10pm, and DCA was closing at 9pm. Both are now listed as closing at 8pm. 1/2

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

Curious that has one listed performance, at 5:30pm. Even if the rain lets up, which I doubt it will, I expect that the performance corridor would be too wet to safely run the parade, even if they just walk and don't dance. can be run in the rain, though I don't know if they'd do the fire effects. 2/2

Tried the plant-based bulgogi fried rice from , and I really liked it. The pieces look remarkably like beef. After I ate a couple pieces, I could tell that it wasn't beef because the consistency was a little different.

1/3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

And then I realized that what it reminded me of was the canned braised gluten that I ate as a kid, picture included. I do still like it, but I almost never buy it anymore because I'm pretty sure it's incredibly unhealthy for you. But the consistency is right, and seitan would make sense for a plant-based food. I wonder if that's what they used.

2/3

image/jpeg

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

In any case, I thought it was a very tasty dish, and a terrific option for non-meat eating folks, though of course not so much for folks who don't do gluten. 3/3

Found in jail today. (After having seen Kylo Ren and stormtroopers, and Ahsoka (separately), and Boba Fett (separately) in the prior 10 minutes. (And then Mando with Grogu showed up while I was writing this.) It was a busy day in .) When Chopper came over my way, I asked him why he was in jail, and he turned to the CM to ask him. I didn't quite hear his response but Chopper seemed insistent that he shouldn't be confined. 1/2

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

As the CM was walking away, expecting to follow him, Chopper hung back, and the CM said Chopper wanted to stay with me and didn't want to go, but he was responsible for him. I said that he was responsible for everything Chopper does, and the CM said, wait, what, wait a minute, while Chopper chuckled. They then both left. That was fun. Just a regular Saturday on . 2/2

Today was the half marathon. and came out to see us off. Oh, hey, and my favorite sign language interpreter was there!

It was a really brutal race for me. I had a lot of new experiences today, but thankfully, getting swept at a race and taking a DNF (did not finish) was not one of them. I'll do a more complete write-up later this week, but for now, I did finish the half marathon and so earned both a and medal. 1/2

cstephens2,

And it wasn't just a 19.3 weekend like the medal, bib and shirts say. Since we did the 5k as well, it was a 22.4 weekend for each of us. 2/2

Lunch today was from . Apparently, I haven't eaten here in a while because they've changed the menu. Instead of the wonderful chicken sun-dried tomato pesto pasta, they now have a four-cheese roasted garlic chicken pasta. Given how descriptive it is, you'd think it would be flavorful. You'd be wrong. It was pretty bland, not garlicky at all, and the sauce was very grainy. 1/3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

Putting red pepper flakes on it helped but that shouldn't be the saving grace of a dish. Also, it's hard to visually differentiate between the rigatoni and the chicken pieces because they look exactly the same. 2/3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

I also discovered that the wonderful boardwalk field greens salad is also gone. There's a new wedge salad that's basically one-quarter of a whole head of romaine with toppings. And there's now a Caesar as a side salad only.

So disappointed with these menu changes. This used to be one of my go-to places to eat. Not anymore, I guess. 3/3

@cstephens2 looks cold there based on people wearing jackets and the PNW’s arctic blast hitting this region. How was the experience?

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

@isophetry It's much colder than normal, even for January. I normally wear a baseball hat, but I wore the beanie yesterday and today for more warmth. Both yesterday and today, I had on a T-shirt, race shirt, and a jacket. I also wore leggings under my skort. Tomorrow is expected to be a little less cold, and I'll be out longer since it's a half, so I'm going to forego the beanie for my regular hat and leave off the T-shirt.

It's not too bad once you start. Waiting is very cold.
