OC Homemade fermented habanero hot sauce (imgur.com)
It was my first time making homemade hot sauce. I made it with habaneros, rice vinegar, olive oil and garlic....

losttourist, I may have fucked up a little bit.
I was in the supermarket earlier doing grocery shopping, and a new bottle of Encona hot sauce was on the shopping list.
I picked up the Encona but then noticed this on the shelf and thought I'd give it a try. So back goes the Encona and this sits in my basket.
Yeah, so it turns out that "bhut jolokia" is Assamese for "ghost pepper". This is not Encona (made from scotch bonnet peppers) - not by a long shot.
Dinner was ... spicy.
dnc, This local grocery store in Sinaloa, Mexico has an aisle exclusively for hot sauces https://www.diningandcooking.com/1218871/this-local-grocery-store-in-sinaloa-mexico-has-an-aisle-exclusively-for-hot-sauces/
KarenStrickholm, @dnc Here in New Mexico, our grocery stores have a massive section, just for lard.
SRDas, Got back home to some terrific hand pankoed mahi mahi and fried up by partner. With some shredded cabbage, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro slaw and a bit of sour cream based quick sauce made for some terrific #tacos
Shout out to salsa huichol too. Not something I use too often, but I always have some on hand - for Mexican type seafood it's a great #HotSauce First had it in Chicago decades ago at a short lived but rightly buzz creating seafood taco place (Tacos del Pacifico)
Corn tortillas with pieces of breaded fried fish and some green slaw and a messy drizzle of white and brown sauces
Bottle with a yellow label that says Salsa Huichol hot sauce with a graphic of a person in a wide brimmed sombrero
SRDas, Of the 6 black beans & rice stuffed peppers last night for #dinner kids wanted the 2 leftover, so parents had to make do with quick spamkotsu #ramen (instant kind) but doctored broth and some leftover slaw from tacos a couple of nights ago👆🏽 - don't know if I'd do the spam again in this (other better uses), but the ajitama I made yesterday totally worked out. We all happy now.
#FoodA bowl of ramen with slices of crisped spam, halves of boiled egg and cabbage slaw
SRDas, Reprise of the mahi mahi tacos - fillet cut into thick pieces, breaded and fried.
This time around with a quick margarita to go with it. (Been a while since we had one of those)
Good 1, 2 punch for a Monday!Fish tacos on corn tortillas on a plate with a glass of margarita with a lemon wedge in the glass
kyonshi, (edited ) It's a Polish company. And they make some mustards and ketchup and stuff. Sure they say it's "extremely spicy", but how spicy will that even be?
Turns out holy shit my mouth is on fire.
Haven't had that feeling from a #hotsauce in a while.
This mostly burns in the back of my throat, but the sauce itself tastes kind of fruity.
kyonshi, @vdonnut I saw they had a ghost pepper one as well which they described as bardzo ostry. Maybe I should try that one. The third one is a Scorpion pepper sauce and I don't like those that much.
vdonnut, @kyonshi I don't remember their taste but they didn't seem that different in terms of spiciness.
multiverseofbadness, Me trying my pedestrian leftover #MexicanFood after adding some shredded artisan-ass Mango Habanero cheese I got for #Xmas and some #handmade Pineapple Habanero #hotsauce my friend made

I find that Tabasco Brand makes hot sauce that isn't as hot as it looks, ha.It's the distinctive flavor of the habanero that makes me a big fan.

digitalrodent, @dnc This is a staple condiment in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. These days they also have Extra Hot and Garlic.
mdmrn, So, since genuine Huy Fong brand sriracha chili sauce has been very hard to find on the East coast, we've been trying to find alternatives that actually have as close to the same flavor as that Rooster sauce.
Enter new challenger "Thai Authentic Sriracha Chili Sauce." Talk about a generic name.
We found it at #DollarTree and, for that price, figured we'd try it out. Turns out - it has almost an identical flavor to the Huy Fong brand sauce.
However, it is not as thick. Think more like a thin hot sauce such as Cholula or Tabasco as opposed to regular Huy Fong sriracha chili sauce, which is closer to ketchup in thickness. That said, this mixed into another sauce or cooked into something, works perfectly as an alternative.
Also, can't beat that price.
...We may have bought our local Dollar Tree out...

MrShoggoth, @dnc - Cholula Hot Sauce With Garlic. Fantastic and not too hot. Frank’s Hot Sauce. Excellent in Buffalo Wing apps. Sriracha - classic Chinese heat.

me_valentijn, Habenero's got a lovely flavor, though I prefer it without the gratuitous heat from the seeds :P

dis, I also made the first batch of scotch bonnet fish pepper peach hot sauce. And the second, with carrots I forgot on the first one.
Super easy, just peach, onion, a million peppers and some brine. Sits and waits a month or so, then blend boil and eat.#hotsauce #peppers #growyourown #scotchbonnets #thaifishpepper (localish despite the name)
lydiaconwell,
Virginicus, @lydiaconwell This is true! My wife dragged me to a smoothie bar. Everything was too sweet for me, so I started to create a Macho Smoothie recipe. It was based on ancho & chimayo peppers, with tomatoes for sugar. Madame looked at me and said, “You’re describing salsa.”
It was my first time making homemade hot sauce. I made it with habaneros, rice vinegar, olive oil and garlic....
