I pushed two new (tiny!) today ... which is pretty good for me, being 100% not-an-HTML guy!

They both use @amin's because I absolutely don't understand that stuff but want to have, well, easily readable pages 😃

The first is a starting point that indexes things I have (and will have) written: https://writing.by.jonathanmatthews.com/

Then there's my company / Me site: https://www.jcm-systems.co.uk/

Registration for my personal .info domain now costs five times that of our family .uk domain.

I’ve had jamescooke.info since 2003 and mainly used it for hosting email. It seems like it would be annoying to move it to a cheaper .uk domain, but, maybe worth it in the long run 🤔

@jamescooke If by any chance you're using Gandi for that domain, do shop around. They put their prices up horribly.

@kev The spec page mentions a countdown timer which "can be set every second". Is it a recurring, count down N seconds and automatically restart timer; or something else?

Anybody else using for code reviews?
Most other servers have a repo browser and render markdown. That'd be really helpful for any non-developers, because we try to keep our documentation in Git, but it's a tough ask for any non-developer to learn how to check out a Git repo, just to read the docs.
Is there anything like that out there? I did a quick search for 3rd party tools and plugins, but couldn't find anything. Readonly mirror to e.g. Forgejo would be the last resort.

jonathanmatthews,
@jonathanmatthews@fosstodon.org avatar

@mforester gerrithub(.io) exclusively supports GitHub auth, so it's usual for a project to have a browsable remote there.
For self-hosted Gerrit (and Gerrithub, IME) I believe there's a repo browser called "Gitiles" which Gerrit integrates with.

Just a brief reminder that every #AWS VM/container/etc you give a public #IPv4 #IP address to now costs you $3.65/month more than in 2023. AWS charges per IP-address per-hour.

Would anyone care to recommend a CO2 monitor I can prop up next to my desk to remind me when to ventilate?

Bonus marks if it's both powered and portable, so I can occasionally take it to meetings and opt out when things get too muggy. I don't care about recording numbers over time. UK purchase.

Q: it is I want to monitor, both for air quality and as a proxy for the fact that , right??

My dad is having his first job interview in more than 30 years and hooh boy is there so much knowledge about video calling technology and etiquette that I just took for granted 😳 Like, I can't explain why, but calling into an interview in portrait mode feels so casual / unprofessional... but his computer is so old that the only usable webcam he has is an iPad, and landscape mode on the iPad means it's hard to look into the camera on the side while talking 🙃 Wish him luck!

jonathanmatthews,

@janeadams Random idea: if he has access to a USB webcam and a USB-to-lightning adapter, he might well find that they Just Work together acceptably ...

If you were a (UK) business with more than 85,000 GBP to stick into savings accounts, how would you handle it?
Related but separate: I vaguely recall a service which keeps an eye on different banks' accounts' rates, and does periodic sweeps to make sure that no single account is outside the coverage limit (of 85k) ... but I can't remember its name 🙄

that a "notary public" in the UK (at least) can only notarise documents for use aboard ... they can't notarise docs for one to use in the UK. If, for instance, you want to make a certified copy of a document then you have to use someone else's services, such as a solicitor. (A notary can /also/ be a solicitor, of course).

@aronow This is Charlie! He lived most of his 16 years up in Ripon, North Yorkshire, with a friend of our family, Audrey, and his sister, Lola. Audrey passed away in 2022, and our family had promised to look after both Charlie & Lola. Sadly, Lola had to be put down before she reached us, but Charlie came through & has been a friendly and very vocal ray of sunshine in our lives ever since! I'm gently memorialising all 3 in the docs I write for my day job :-) https://alpha.cuelang.org/docs/howto/transform-yaml-with-cue/
