There's a really exciting project i like, & thought to follow here in the fediverse. I was going to add it, , getaurora.dev/, to my large list of but unfortunately atm my timing is a little poor. Bloody physics, astronomy, sun 😜

I purchased a domain today in the hopes of starting something I've wanted to do for a long time. I hate waste, especially and I noticed a few of my local community members in dire need of computers but can't afford to get them. I decided that I'm going to try to get folks to donate their old hardware (desktops and laptops mostly) that are 5-7 years old (so 64bit works smoothly) and install on them and donate those recycled machines to the folks in need. More info coming soon!

I decided to try building from source. I used a F39 toolbox on my 40 and installed the prereqs; most from packages, but pyside2 from pip (inside the toolbox) since it hasn't been packaged in Fedora for years. The segfault I'm getting from libshiboken isn't illuminating to me. I could imagine a missing dependency on a package causing a segfault, or maybe no one is building FreeCAD on Fedora and it just doesn't work on F39. 🤔

Not clear that I'm close enough to the beaten path for this to be worth a bug report, though. Quite likely PEBCAK...

Poll: users, do you regret buying a laptop or desktop with an Nvidia card because of drivers and other problems?

cakenes,

@nixCraft What problems?

Tuxand,

@nixCraft AMD igp + Nvidia dgpu, I have worse experience than windows using an external monitor, waiting for it to improve. With gnome the monitor flashes when going fullscreen and KDE works well but some games do really bad. I'll test in near future again.

the csd/ssd discourse is annoying. why can't we have both. ask the window manager to draw the window, then tell the client where it can place things like extra window buttons and tabs and things. kinda like windows but good. this would allow people who want to customise to be able to do so, but if you just install a desktop environment like gnome it still solves the problem.

Linux desktop is sorely missing good ad integration. Try to search “how to view ads on linux” and I bet you can't find anything at all. There isn't even a stand-alone app. Not everyone is able/willing to run a Windows VM just for basic ad viewing at the OS level.

Ads in the terminal could work, too.

I see some people are really disappointed about Debian packaging a stripped-down version of KeePassXC. But hey, I actually wish there was also a minimal @thunderbird package without integrations of IRC or Matrix etc, just with core email functionality.
