@nixCraft dafug? Why would anyone buy such a device?

As an App/Service on your phone? Maybe. But why to make a separate device out of this? Just to make it les obviously for people that this is (probably) just a wrapper for ChatGPT or any other AI service?

@sergeant I'm really not sure if I get the message here?

Is anybody actually considering the involvement of the USA in WW2 as toxic masculinity?

Is anybody actually considering serving in the military as toxic masculinity?

I think all the Nazi stuff could be considered as toxic masculinity.

As someone who covers manufactured outrage campaigns for a living, journalists desperately need to learn how to properly cover these campaigns.

These grafs in NYT donโ€™t give nearly enough context to who Chris Rufo is, or his agenda/track record. Quoting ppl like Rufo as neutral/honest actors is a huge mistake not only bc it launders their abusive, ideologically driven campaigns to mainstream liberals, but also bc it leaves readers less informed abt the motivations behind these attacks.

TheGymNerd,
@TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

@taylorlorenz I think media should stop quoting Twitter all together.

E.g. Olaf Scholz was "criticized" from german media because he not immediately posted a statement there regarding Iran-Israel attack...

As if this must be the official way of state communication ๐Ÿคท Probably he first connected to Israeli officials through a non public way.

It's only about getting maximum attention anymore not about getting people informed. This needs to stop.

    I honestly don't think that's a bad thing. Real creativity results from restriction. Take a look at Koji Kondo for example. The hardware restrictions of his time resulted in awesome pieces of art that still hold up to this day.

    dangillmor, to random
    @dangillmor@mastodon.social avatar

    It's possible that Meta/Threads will interoperate with the Fediverse to expand people's access to each other in purely cooperative ways, for everyone's benefit.

    But history tells us that it's vastly, vastly, vastly more likely that the Meta will, borg-like, follow Big Tech's normal pattern of "embrace, extend, extinguish" -- because there's no history of giant platforms doing anything else.

    So we all need to prepare, right now, for what we do about it -- and not wait until it happens.

    TheGymNerd,
    @TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

    @dangillmor this extinguish part is not possible for anything that doesn't has a business model like the Fediverse.

    The only way could be extinguished is if we stop using/believing in it.

    Actually I'm quite tired of hearing how meta will bring us all down... If anything brings the Fediverse down it's only the users that stop interacting with each other out of a fear.

    TheGymNerd,
    @TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

    @dangillmor PS:
    It's funny how you call meta borg-like while in fact we (the fediverse) is the collective that assimilates new platform after platform over the activity pub protocol ๐Ÿ™‚

    The hip rotation with the band feels like it's really working on hip mobility. I heard several joint noises while I was doing it!

    TheGymNerd,

    @s1m0n4 @WTL yeah that KB-leg-lift thing looks like this most complex exercise I ever saw... So from the movement pattern I'm pretty sure it's an abs/core exercise similar to hanging leg raises, but with weights on the foot and standing on one leg... That's exactly the type of exercise I would expect from an artist like you who is casually showing joggling tricks just for fun ๐Ÿ˜Š

    PS:
    At first I thought your son would do this pullups unassisted ๐Ÿ˜…

    TheGymNerd,
    @TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

    @WTL @s1m0n4 yes that's makes sense. Your core has to work to get it up slowing down the eccentric phase is always the hardest and great way to add more intensity to an exercise once it's getting to easy. If you execute the way down on a Squad or a pullup and doing it very controlled it also rapidly intensity the exercise ๐Ÿ‘

    But I think for this exercise just doing it is enough for the start ๐Ÿ˜€

    Some days I'm simply not able to get the performance in the gym. I'm just tired and exhausted. I still show up because I really like to do this stuff but I just can't focus on anything... Sometimes even getting dizzy while lifting. I still try to get the most out of it but it's always frustrating. Sadly those days appear more frequently recently without me being able to identify any reason for it ๐Ÿ˜ž

    Can someone who understands activity pub fill me in on the whole Threads posting to Mastodon thing? Mosseri (IG CEO) said that soon Threads users would be able to post to Mastodon. Will I be able to cross post my Threads posts to this Mastodon profile? Or do I have to set up a second Mostodon profile for my Threads cross posts? I'm confused how this whole thing will work

    TheGymNerd,
    @TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

    @taylorlorenz so much already said.

    Short answer: Only threads CEO exactly knows how threads will actually work together with activity pub ๐Ÿ˜‰

    What everyone hopes for (or fear depending on the viewpoint) is that threads will become it's own instance like mastodon.social or fostodon.org is an instance.

    I highly recommend this blog post from the creator of mastodon himself https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2023/07/what-to-know-about-threads/#:~:text=What%20we%20know,in%20using%20their%20Instagram%20accounts.

    Please. It's a never ending source of support issues. Especially for newer users. Get them onto something easy like Ubuntu.

    TheGymNerd,
    @TheGymNerd@mastodon.social avatar

    @gamingonlinux why not Debian since Ubuntu is actually "just" derivative of it?

    But the most silly thing in my eyes is to praise something like Kubuntu over straight Ubuntu... It's just a different desktop environment. If you really want it you can just install it. No need to swap out the entire OS for it. I think that confuses new Linux users more than anything else.
