🔥USA East Coast friends: if the #Wildfire smoke is thick in your area, build a Corsi-Rosenthal box filter. These are inexpensive to build and very effective, and they filter and exchange the air in your house very efficiently. We use them extensively here in the western US when the fire smoke is bad. See this resource for how to build one:
And keep a browser tab open to https://map.purpleair.com so you can monitor the air quality in your area. You should primarily be concerned about PM2.5. Do not stress about the VOC readings. Those measurements are still considered experimental/uncalibrated in Purple Air. #airquality#Wildfire#smoke
To my North American friends east of the Mississippi:
Use N95 masks outdoors when AQI is greater than 100. And if you don't have air purifiers in your home, get them. Honeywell and Coway have reliable models I feel comfortable recommending.
Do not take poor air quality lightly.
We've become hardened experts at living with wildfire and smoke in California over the last 8 years. You don't have to learn the hard way.
I’ve been mildly struggling with breathing the past couple of days. I clued in yesterday it’s because of forest fires. My eyes are a little gummy and I have a nagging cough. Gonna make sure I have my puffer with me when I go to the gym and keep an eye on the air quality index. Oof. #asthma#AirPollution#AirQuality#ForestFires#ClimateDiary
An hour ago, I posted an air quality index chart for Ottawa with a reading of 192, ‘Unhealthy’.
Now it has jumped to 207, ‘Very Unhealthy’
An eerie, thick, yellow, miasmic pall has settled over the area. Take care out there. #AirQuality#Weather#ForestFires#Pollution#Ottawa

Does anyone know what the air quality is like around the basin on the Bedford Highway?
I have breathing issues and am supposed to go there this afternoon. A bit concerned about the smoke.
I'd appreciate any info if you're in the area. #Halifax#HalifaxFire
Anyone got suggestions or links to info on how one might make photos for emissions monitoring from unfiltered vehicle tunnel exhaust stacks?
In a colder climate, I suspect one might be able to use images of exhaust condensation. But in a relatively warm climate, the exhaust is invisible to the human eye.
