Where (in England) do they sell physical copies of mathematics and physics textbooks that you can pick up and peruse before buying?

The obvious answer is Foyles on Charing Cross Road, but lately the selection of maths & physics textbooks there has been pitiful. They're barely bothering to stock textbooks any more (it didn't look much better for the adjacent chemistry and biology sections either), and lately when I've gone, it's not sated my need to physically shop for textbooks.

But where else sells such niche books?

Does anyone have a brand (or type) of decaffeinated coffee they would like to share? My wife and I like bold roasts and we're trying to cut down on our caffeine intake. We'd like to still drink a lot of coffee, but not feel jittery.

Anyone have any experience with social media management software? Like hootsuite, tweetdeck, etc?

Anyone have any they recommend?

Anyone know of one with a nonprofit/community option?

I'd like to be able to manage facebook, insta, threads, bsky, and (obviously) the fediverse. It's not for myself, so please don't critique the services.

I know there's a few you can self-host, I don't want to self host right now.

I have a Google One subscription (2TB quota) that I would like to use to organise files for a community, but when they upload photos to the drive the team members quota is used, not mine. Is there a way to sort this problem?

ps. Using Google because integration with chat, reasonably priced, and Thai language support.

Now that I have paperless-ngx running and my is working, any suggestions for a software for ?

I have an ADF duplex scanner and will mainly scan b&w ("lineart"), but sometimes in color, too. Output files should be PDF, OCR is optional. I need to be able to remove empty back side pages.

Is there anything that supports different, auto-detected page dimensions in a single PDF as well as auto-cropping and skew removal?

Is anyone using Bitwarden in a large organization?

We currently use Keepass with about 5000 entries in 800 folders and subfolders. These represent geographically distributed customer sites.

Importing this into BW works, but the search functionality is super clunky and the dumbed-down interface is a pain to use. For example in the app a found entry is not listed with the collection it was found in. It is in the web UI, but the collection name is shortened unrecognizably.

Any experts here? :BoostOK:

I seem to have exhausted my netns IP range:

"IPAM error: failed to find free IP in range: 10.89.0.1 - 10.89.0.254"

/run/user/1000/netns contains 257 netns-* files.

The thing is: ip netns list shows nothing, and podman network rm does not fix the issue. Rebooting probably will, but that's the Windows way of solving things …

So questions of the day!
I generally like to ask this of older or experienced people in life.
Disclaimer a fun post, so if you troll it at least make it relevant

If today was your last day alive.

In a paragraph or phrase what do you feel is the most important message to pass on to future generations?
I’ve thought about it for awhile. How would you choose, or prioritize a paragraph or so on the most important message for them that you value personally?!!🙏🥰

Separately it could be a picture or a perspective.

Keep in mind we all share the same reality.

Our world view however intrapersonally can be much different.

If you feel like I should have better tags let me know.

I’m curious to see if anyone can come up with unique views that are sincere and kind, and practical.

I understand the importance of alt text for images. But as I was drafting my image description just now a question occurred to me – in adding alt text to images am I also inadvertently making it easier for the AI bots to scrape my artwork?

NatureMC,
@NatureMC@mastodon.online avatar

@beach At least in the Fediverse there shouldn't be any for (?) Does anybody know more? @FediTips @feditips ?

Scraping bots don't need ALT-texts for scraping (they have image recognition).

At the moment, the only ways to protect are and , https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/index.html and https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/ and banning AI bots on your website in the robot.txt

PLOT TWIST !
Your vision blurs and white text appears in front of your eyes saying Game Over.

You remove the goggles, realizing you were still in a demo from the first time you tried the Oculus Rift back in 2014. Seeing a pixelated game followed by a realistic dystopian world when you removed the in-game headset was just a marketing gimmick in the demo and the passage of time was just an illusion.

You're back in 2014. What do you do next?

Can any folk (particularly in Australia, for local prices) recommend a reasonably priced network accessible ? Not after 4K support -- literally 1920x1080 is more than sufficient for my needs, but ideally should support at least 4 connections.

Today was a bad day for Linux Gaming, at least for me.

  1. I wanted to play DCS: World with head teacking like always
  2. My system stopped recognising my Oculus Rift CV1 sensors, throwing all sorts of USB errors in dmesg
  3. I switched to the linux-lts kernel, which caused even more problems with the GPU. The graphical environment never showed up.
  4. Back on the regular linux kernel, I settled for a phone strapped to my head for head tracking.
  5. After two hours of gameplay, KWin crashed and failed to restore my open applications including the game.

I'm done for tonight. 😩
