Add “stealing classified documents and hiding them from investigators” to the list of things our justice system says is okay now.

Gove refuses to set deadline for investigation into Tees freeport ‘corruption’

Once again, Private Eye keeps the naked greed and corruption in the public eye while the Tories scramble to defend their personal money grabbing activities and their bungs to favoured party donors.

Land sold off at a fraction of its value for a scheme that has dubious benefits for England.

A judge orders former New York City Mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani to pay $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers for defamation. The women said they were subjected to harassment and racial abuse after Giuliani spread lies that framed them as participants in stealing the 2020 election for Joe Biden. @NewsDesk Alex Jones has taught us that when a court fines you, you don’t have to pay unless you’re poor.

@JonChevreau we should probably have a serious conversation about how one-third of the current Supreme Court is made up of people who were appointed by an insurrectionist traitor.

Seems like the kind of problem a serious, first-world country would want to address; I dunno.

If the code of conduct is so meaningless that it allows a situation where a justice receives a $260,000 truck as a gift from a billionaire with business before the court, that's obviously not something that will restore credibility.

If the justices cannot put a meaningful code of conduct in place for themselves, then Congress should.

But we’ll obviously need a different Congess to do that.

The Supreme Court’s new ethics code is an unenforceable joke-

@TonyStark every day that goes by where there aren’t a million people surrounding the Supreme Court building demanding that resign is a failure of this country. We’re going to just let this guy keep doing his thing? What a joke.

I’m starting to think maybe isn’t going to just resign on his own due to any kind of integrity, righteousness, or the sense of right and wrong possessed by any 8-year-old.

Also… pretty disappointed in the fediverse that no one before me has ever used the hashtag “ClarenceFuckingThomas”. Come on, guys.

New: NBC News Confirmed That The Probe Into The Infamous Deleted Secret Service Text Message Scandal Has Officially Become A Criminal Investigation.

According to reporting from NBC News’ Pete Williams and Julia Ainsley, the inspector general’s probe into the Department of Homeland Security regarding missing Secret Service text messages hailing from January 5th and 6th, 2021, has now officially turned into a criminal investigation, after reports revealed the text messages being sought by the J6 House Select Committee were conveniently deleted after their request for the evidence was already made.

The failure to prosecute Donald Trump swiftly after Jan 6 has allowed the fascism of MAGA to grow stronger. As a result, our Republic is more at risk today than ever before in our lifetimes.

OGjester,
@OGjester@stranger.social avatar

@DeanObeidallah it was, quite literally, the greatest failure in 247 years of our justice system. The fact that he continues to walk free YEARS LATER is why I don’t believe in any part of it any more.

The Government has introduced a last minute amendment that will gag people from speaking about how the DPC handles their complaint and about how Big Tech firms are misusing their data.

ICCL calls on all parties in the Dáil to challenge amendment.

@johnnyryan @klillington Thank heavens for Karlin Lillington. 👏 I'd like to think I'm far from the only one enraged by the naked cynicism, short-sighted self-interest described here (just imagine the howls if an SF govt was responsible) but suspect we have an impenetrable inversion layer of complacency, smugness and arrogance over Dublin that is soliciting a comeuppance. I hope it's suitably brutal for those most responsible when it happens.
