The saga of Waverley Park — Melbourne's car-dependent suburban AFL stadium with a planned seated capacity of over 150,000 (not a typo!)
A really good run down by @philip on the plans by the AFL (and its predecessor, the VFL) to build the world's largest stadium in outer-suburban Melbourne.
Unfortunately, a planned railway line past the stadium to Rowville was never built. That meant a massive 25,000-spot car park as the only real means to get there.
While most of it has been demolished and redeveloped for housing, the oval itself still used by Hawthorn Football Club as a training and administration centre.
Hawks dominated for large parts of the match, but we're just too inaccurate in front of goal.
Also very effective hard tag on Sicily by the Dons. The Bombers also dominated clearances, Stringer was a star, Langford worked his way into the match after a quiet first half.
Wondering about recording all the food we eat that we have grown, foraged or harvested ourselves.
I did it a couple of years ago and found it was good to see how much we did provide for ourselves & was sometimes a reminder to check the freezer.

@Hellybootwader@afewbugs@Pollinators In France, you can bring them in, they are one of the flowers of Beltane (thanks to climate change now blooming more than half a month too early.)
We eat the young leaves in (wild herb) salads because of their fine nutty taste but don't know the bread & cheese lore.
I ask myself if it has to do with the flowers that have a smell being evocative old cheese socks (and therefore bring bad luck?!?).😎 😁

Spent some time walking part of the North Downs Way on Saturday. Hedgerows very colourful with red #hawthorn berries (haws) and dark blue sloes. A few swallows skimming low over the fields, getting ready to depart for Africa. Buzzards and red kites soaring in the thermals, and a few #butterflies (commas & red admirals) basking in the autumn sun
It's nonstop birds and hawthorns in bloom, out here in the middle of nowhere, clear of the industrial outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent.
Spring on the Caldon canal seems to be a few weeks behind the rest of the midlands, judging by what's blooming and the size of moorhen chicks and goose goslings.
