@briankrebs Almost half the people read their feed in the natural direction: old to new. And still there is no Mastodon app that lets you do that in the natural way, with oldest posts highest up in the timeline. Why is that? There were Twitter apps that could do that #tusky#fedilab#MastodonApp#subwaytooter#trunksapp
I use the “Mastodon” App for iPhone to access the Fediverse . Sometimes on my iPad (but not the phone) the app will give me a split screen view as shown BELOW.
I don’t like this presentation, but can’t find a way to get rid of it, nor have I found a way to close one side or drag it so I can minimize it. I’d rather it just see one view at a time.
Does anyone find that #Tusky and the #MastodonApp give different alerts? (Yes, I know, why do I have both on my phone? Because each does some things better, some worse, that's why). But on an evening like this, when a very old toot has gone unexpectedly viral, I find it a bit hit and miss whether I see all the replies.
Started work on another #Pipilo update. This time focusing on initial app experience. First improvement will be allowing users to browse posts without authorization. That way they will be able to immediately experience how navigation in the app works.
Below is a work in progress screenshot of the new welcome screen with pagination and app mascot. Also decided to use new yellow color in interface instead of only green everywhere.
I just noticed that Mastodon web is identifying Group accounts in the UI and happy to see it.
With the #Threadiverse expanding, I appreciate knowing that I am replying or interacting with a Group account, where my response may end up in front of audiences I wasn't expecting.
Hoping more third party clients will start adding this as well.
The identifier is included in any Account element returned in through the official API.
Hmm...did preview card displays on mastodon web change recently? Makes the timeline jumpy.
If the link has an oEmbed, you get that immediately, but then as the post comes into view, it starts generating a preview card and makes the timeline move around.
Not happening on the app, just the web version.
Interesting because previously the cards were generated server side only...
Some #Pipilo progress. I’m working on improvements to image viewer to make it more functional. Screenshot shows new overlay with, close button, share action and alt text description. Not shown is new progress indicator that will appear if images take longer to load. Few more things from my to do list are yet to come.
Another feature from todo list done. Integrated media viewer with text detection feature for easy text selection. Once iOS 17 is out this will also support "lifting" subjects.
Inspired by @tashen I'm going to examine various Mastodon Clients on Android, skipping the early access clients...Also, the ones that I feel are sketchy as well. I'll start by compiling my thoughts on Fedilab, one of my favorite Mastodon apps soon. #Android#Mastodon#Appfieldtrip
Tusky is simultaneously modern but bland to my eye. Sure everything is visually communicated well without causing confusion; There's simply something antiquated about the UI that reminds me of older versions of Android. I'd love to see toots surrounded by a rounded frame, dynamic UI that takes inspiration from your wallpaper.
Tusky does function well and hasn't given me any problems.
Update to @Mastodon app is today is great, plus includes this amazing new feature that, I can’t believe I have to say it, other social media platforms don’t have.
Trying out @IceCubesApp and really enjoying the experience so far. I’m not sure how I missed this app in all of my searching, but I’m glad I found it today! #mastodonapps#MastodonApp#app
Okay just joined tonight. I'm a UK based Author, artist, mental health campaigner and inspirer. I hope to continue spreading hope and light here on #mastodonapp. It would be nice to get to know some people on here 😊 #twittermigration#mentalhealth
Q: Are there any Mastodon apps or clients that show something other than the chronological timeline?
For example:
• hiding old posts you've already read
• sorting posts other than date-based
• surfacing posts by friends who post infrequently
• surfacing trending posts, and adding them to your main feed
Thanks for any suggestions! Please share for visibility.
@Mastodon Normally I use #metatext but gave the new #mastodonapp update for iOS a try. Nice design and I can edit posts which Metatext can‘t.
What I don’t like:
Pinned toots do not show in profiles. This sometimes buries some really great but older content 😏👎
Visibility of toots can still not be set to „unlisted“. For me not a big thing as I compose longer threads in the browser. But it‘s a useful feature which was implemented for a good reason in mastodon and should be part of the M-app.
