My #DNS -level filter went offline for a while, and a bunch of ads and in-page popups jump-scared me! 🤕
Also: I would like to thank services like #PiHole, #DNSForge, & #NextDNS for the great work that they do -- by blocking ads+trackers -- to keep us SANE and SAFE! 😇😇😇
I want to file an issue on Github about some accessibility issues with the #NextDNS log viewer. I want to explain what is actually wrong with the code, not just describe what I can't access and how my screen reader behaves. I'm not familiar enough with HTML and especially Javascript to make heads or tails of it. Would anyone like to help me diagnose this?
Set up an annual 'pro' subscription to #NextDNS! It's made browsing the Web on my phone/tablet /significantly/ less disgusting for the last ~3 weeks or so.
So far I've ended up using it via #Tailscale and just having the latter autoconnect on all my (human-facing) devices. Access to my home server + no-fuss NextDNS regardless of where I am at the moment, is worth the mild battery hit.
So annoyed by those "cookies consent" pop ups! 😡
My #AdGuard doesn't seem to block them.
My #NextDNS either.
Nor #Mullvad .
What's the best approach here? Create a custom rule every time in AdGuard? Report it somewhere (e.g. one of NextDNS lists)? "Accept all" hoping that my protections will shield me from all theses trackers?
@griesgram@kuketzblog ich meine, das Vorgehen wird von der #grapheneos Community als sicherer bezeichnet. Ich habe als Alternative öfter #NextDNS gelesen, es aber noch nicht ausprobiert
@shibashecurity I've been thinking of doing this too. My #pihole works great, but the lack of management required to use #NextDNS is making me wonder if running it is still worth it.
Every once in a while I find a site that just wont work properly without disabling the pihole (at least for the initial query/connection). How do you handle that situation with NextDNS?
How do you handle smart lights and plugs where you can't install the client?
What are some of the best DNS services out there? #quad9 looks good. I'm really interested in #foundationforappliedprivacy (FFAP) Does anyone have any experience with FFAP?
Lesen).
If you are looking for a good way to take control of your internet experience you should look for a custom DNS for your devices. I have one that I use for my phone as it is important to keep that safe as it now has access to most of your important things, IE bank, notes, messages, and photos. I would start by watching @techlore newest video on #nextDNS as a good starting point of what a custom DNS can do for you. https://youtu.be/WUG57ynLb8I
This is rather specific, but for anyone using #NextDNS and @mullvadnet on ChromeOS and you are getting a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_SECURE_CONFIG error, do not change your DNS server for your network connection to the IPv6 address. You can still update your "Secure DNS" setting under "Network" to NextDNS' DoH which will still lead to NextDNS being used.

This is a guide that has been recommended by many for those starting out and want to employ sane defaults.
