I just had to test this combination: An original Japanese cartridge of „Super Mario Land“ running natively on the Japanese „Super Game Boy“ with Analogue‘s „Super Nt“ set to 60Hz NTSC. Image is set to sqare pixels and upscaled to 4K on a 55inch OLED screen. 1989-2024… perfection!

...by the limitations of the 8-bit NES, Nintendo chose to remake them for the 16-bit SNES. 🕹️
The developers based the updated designs on those from Super Mario World (1990) and strove to retain the feel of the original games. 👌

...of Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country was released, which resulted in its computer-generated graphics becoming the norm for contemporary SNES games. 🤩
It was too late for the graphic designers to incorporate such a style into Yoshi's Island; instead, they pushed the hand-drawn style further as a way to "fight back". 🖍️

It’s hard to believe I own such an obscure RPG like Robotrek as a kid. I probably got it off a Toys r Us discount bin and with my love for RPG’s I had to have it. Never thought years later it would become highly sought after physically and much more appreciated.

Did you ever buy an obscure game that became wildly popular much later?

Question for any If you take a game off of your mini, will all its related data be lost too. I ask because i want to play a few RPGs on it, but i also use it to run a gaming event at my local library. I usually edit the games on the system to only include the ones that i want the patrons to play for that day. Would i lose data if i keep installing and uninstalling star ocean or something long?

I've a question about modern "homebrew" games made for old consoles:

Why is the original Gameboy such a popular target? Itch lists a whopping 6406 games tagged as targeting Gameboy. The second-most popular old console is the NES, with only 1848 games on Itch: less than a third as many as the Gameboy. The Gameboy Advance sits at only 450 games on Itch.

Why? What makes the Gameboy so much better of a platform for indie devs compared to the NES or later consoles? #Retrocomputing #RetroGaming #NES #NintendoEntertainmentSystem #Gameboy #GB #GameboyAdvance #GBA #SuperNES #SNES #SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem #Itch
