I used the Windows 11 ARM version inside of #VMWare Fusion this weekend and it performed perfectly. I was waiting for the day when I could ditch an Intel Mac just for windows use and that time has come.
Yes, some things like dropbox don't install there, but I used RClone to get access to it that way.
For things that I want to use back home, NVDA Remote serves me perfectly well.
Wireguard didn't install for some reason, but I can run it directly on-Mac which means the VM also uses it.
Just got VMware Fusion and it is actually pretty accessible. I gotta learn how to use it though. I did create a win 11 OS build though, but nothing seems to happen when I attempt to start it up. #Mac#VMWare#Fusion
All four are 8 GB #RaspberryPi 4 boards in Flirc cases (the two on the left were from Canakit and the other two from Flirc) with 500 GB Samsung T7 USB SSDs.
The three on the left are running #VMware ESXi on ARM Fling and the other is running Ubuntu with Prometheus and Grafana.
I picked up a 3D printed holder from Etsy since I don't have a rack and I like having the Pi boards in a case to be semi-presentable.

It's a 1440kB 3,5" #Floppy image and should work just fine in #VirtualBox / #QEMU / #KVM / #vmware but it's stuck after loading #Linux (bzImage) and the remaining files (rootfs.cpio.xz)...
Now that #Vmware is dead, what is your «plan B» for on prem #virtualization ?
At work, I don’t think we can’t afford a migration to #proxmox : storage support is a mess and Ceph is probably a no-go.
On prem #hyperv is slowly going down the hill as Microsoft is pushing everyone to Azure.
Before the licencing change we had to pay about 14K€/year for support.
Now we would have to pay ~180K€/year.

I need a PhD to figure out how to register for a free #VMware#ESXi license. It was already hard back then but I figured it out. Now I'm trying to do the same, fresh, to document in my notes on how to do so and I genuinely couldn't find the option to get a free license rather than a free trial. Once I figure this out (if I do), I really gotta start looking into #FOSS hypervisors, if they exist.
Playing around in the evenings trying to get GPU Passthrough/IOMMU working using #Proxmox to very limited success. Might have to try #VMWare if I want this to work in a stable manner. I mean -- I guess I could just run Ubuntu on the Workstation, but it'd be such a waste. I'd rather slice it up into VMs and just pass the GPU into the VMs that need to do inference.
I don't know why #Broadcom wants to throw away the $69 billion they spent on #VMware, but customers and partners alike are abandoning the new "improved" VMware.
I want to build labs that a learner can spin up from a front facing website. I believe I need to learn Terraform to spin these up and collapse when done. Where do I start? #infrastructure#terraform#infrastructureascode#vmware
