Just installed #Whalebird on #LinuxMint and it looks pretty nice. I've only used the web interface previously on my computers. but thought I'd check out a dedicated app or two.
Nach einigen weiteren Tests mit #Sengi und den Reaktionen auf meinen letzten Post zum Thema, habe ich mich nun persönlich für #Whalebird entschieden. Das Fediverse ist vielflältig und divers. Jeder wie er mag.
Whalebird - ein Fediverse-Client für alle gängigen PC-Betriebssysteme nicht nur multi-Account-fähig, sondern auch multi-Plattform-fähig. Ist in der Lage schnell auf alle meine 4 Fediverse-Kurznachrichtendienste (#Akkoma#Mastodon#Friendrica#Firefish) zuzugreifen, ohne wesentliche Bugs einheitlich darzustellen (Timelines und alle Listen) und in allen Grundfunktionen zu bedienen (Posten, Antworten, Boosten). Sogar mit einem übersichtlichen Interface für kleinere administrative Aufgaben (z.B. Profile, Listen).
Wegen Beiträgen wie diesen wurde ich von mehreren Menschen die Mastodon benutzen und davon das sie in ihren Stream recht lange scrollen mussten um durch den Beitrag durchzukommen gefragt ob ich Mastodon Content Warnings nutzen kann. Ja kann ich, aber das sieht dann für andere Friendica User aus. Den selbst wenn ich in die Content Warnung die Überschrift des Beitrags hinein schreibe ist das doch recht unauffällig und nichtssagend.
Deshalb stellt sich für mich die Frage was zu lang ist. Und ob es evtl. eine Möglichkeit gibt mit so etwas wie einen Anriss im Blog zu arbeiten. Den das dürfe sowohl für User von Macroblogging Plattformen als auch für User von Microblogging Plattformen die beste Lösung sein.
Hmm, i am going to stick with the #fediverse#webapps for the time being, #whalebird was good in some places and clunky in others - I imagine it would work better if I had multiple fediverse accounts that i want to access from one single location.
Everyday there are at least a half a dozen posts that I want to boost but won’t because the images on them don’t have descriptions (“alt-text”) so they exclude people who use screen readers to experience the fediverse.
If I have time, I’ll write/extract the text from an image and reply to the thread. But most times, I just have to favourite and move on.
So come on folks, make it easier for me to boost your stuff and do the right thing by enabling everyone to experience your images and videos.
@aral From my phone I use the Mastodon and Tusky apps to post, both of which have the ability to add Alt text, which I always do now (although it was a habit to learn having not done it coming from blue bird) but I can't seem to find the option when posting from the Whalebird app which installed on my Linux PC. Any help from anyone if they know would be much appreciated! I'll keep looking myself of course. #whalebird#alttext
testuję Tubę - desktopowego klianta Mastodona. póki co wszystko śmiga zgodnie z oczekiwaniami.. interfejs wygodny i przejrzysty. jeśli Tuba dobrze się sprawi, będzie u mnie na lapku domyślną aplikacją do Masto (póki co korzystam z webowego Elka)..
@bobiko póki co jest OK. wcześniej korzystałem z #Whalebird, nawet jarałem się nim z lekka, ale z czasem mi przeszło, heheh.. na laptopie dotychczas siedziałem na Elk, albo na konsolowym #tut
z webowych poleciłbym też #Mangan - działa niezawodnie, choć mi nie siada wygląd a'la TT, ale rozumiem, że taki był zamysł dla newbies..
@talon Ah, good. In that case, most likely not. Not with calckey.social at least.
Hopefully they have an accessible Calckey client for both Android and Apple camps. I have #Milktea and #Whalebird for Android & Mac respectively, though those only support #Misskey proper and not the fork, far as I know.
There are also extensive notes from almost all sessions that people ran on so many #Fediverse subjects, ranging from technology and standards to moderation, to enterprise needs to community building and more.
Mein Haupt-Problem mit Mastodon ist derzeit noch, nicht mal so sehr, dass die "dm's" keine echten dm's sind, sondern, dass für mich optisch nicht auf den ersten Blick zu erfassen ist, dass es sich um eine dm handelt.
z.B. dass sie unter "Mitteilungen" auftauchen.
Das macht im Umgang mit Mastodon unsicher und Unsicherheit ist immer ein Usability-Problem.
@Mela Hm, was meinst Du damit? DM's haben ihre eigene Timeline...so sind sie für mich klar erkennbar...z.B. im Web-Interface. Auch in der Desktop-App #Whalebird, die ich da meist benutze oder mobil in #Fedilab...und bestimmt gibt's noch mehr Apps, die das so machen.
Allerdings würde ich #DM`s für weitergehenden Austausch nur in Ausnahmefällen nutzen. Im Web-Interface wird ja direkt eine Warnung angezeigt. Auch via Twitter hat man das doch vermieden, um die Partner nicht zu kompromittieren...
Posted in German this morning, that surely many people are leaving #Mastodon early after signing up because the Web-UI doesn't really look nice.
That's why I would suggest telling every newcomer not only to try out other mobile-apps, but also web-apps like #Elk, #Phanpy, #Trunks and more (see the screenshots). In addition, one could also look at other services in the #Fediverse, I especially like #Calckey.
Anyone better-versed in #mastodon: Is there a way to really use it on my Mac?
I'm using the fandom.ink website right now, and I've found one desktop app for Mac (#whalebird), but I don't think either one of those let me look at other instances, for example. I do have an Android phone, but I'm not particularly keen on using it for social media, especially when I'm at home (and yes, I know that's weird).
I had to delete #whalebird because for some reason it messed with my ability to log in with other apps, like #Mastalab. Ugh, why is nothing like that available for desktop? 😭 #mastodon#newbieproblems
