I'm very anxious, on top of a ton of dreadful feelings: some of my father's ashes are being buried tomorrow. I'd just like to hear from other covid cautious people that it's reasonable to leave the house in an N95. I know people do it, but the last time I went ANYWHERE was last year, for my dad's Celebration of Life and my grandmother's funeral. That's it. I don't go anywhere, and I'm full of fear.
So I just need to hear that people do it and are okay.
Got told very forcibly by a psychiatrist today that "the pandemic is over", and continued to downplay #COVID and show deep ignorance for #LongCOVID . I paused carefully and said that the W.H.O. doesn't seem to agree.
It was quite the frustrating thing to hear as someone who does not have the same opportunities as those currently enjoying the hedonic #immunonarcissism that's been in vogue for at least two solid years now, going and coming without any concern for how their behaviour affects anyone, including themselves.
How have my other #ZeroCovid folks best responded to this sort of problem, especially by those in power?
I want to encourage people to doubt their provably false instincts and harmful biases which are disabling and killing millions of unsuspecting people. I want to discourage doctors who think they always know best, despite the towering research piles, from requiring me to needlessly visit hospitals where I will be shamed and otherwise disadvantaged for needing clean air.
the venue cancelled last minute, so if anyone has a space that fits 30–50 people, where we could test and hang out outside for about an hour, and then dance / make some moderate noise inside, on the 13th or 14th, that be sweet! #berlin#zerocovid

“It’s time for our society to admit that we’ve made a mistake and change course. The COVID-is-mild experiment, despite the wishing and the hoping, has been a tragic failure.”
I feel like we Zeroes need to create our own holiday recognizing the anniversary of our never-ending personal lockdowns in March.
Festivities would include drinking alone together on Zoom, gifting copious amounts of toilet paper to each other, a good long virtual group cry, and sending "get better soon" cards to all the 2019ers we know, regardless of whether they're currently sick or not.
Holiday food would be whatever you can make with what's currently at your house, but definitely no yeasted bread (homemade sourdough only). Bonus points if the food smells faintly of bleach.
It’s getting harder and harder to remain one of the never-infected loner holdouts, but my wife and I are going to keep on trying. There is no alternative that seems better after giving it some thought—if you still can.
The thing that really pisses me off is that I’ve known for over 3 years how dangerous and immune-evasive #SARS2 is—just from reading scientific papers and lots of stories. The #CDC knows. The maskless doctors should know. Inexcusable.
I feel like, though I think about COVID and the societal non-response to it every day, the pain and anger has lessened a lot for me as I start to heal from the ongoing trauma.
The Zeroes community has had a profound positive impact on my mental health and growth and processing of grief.
"Lastly, for each “recipient”, SARS-CoV-2 RNA load was measured (Figure 1B). The results report virus replication in bacterial cultures suggesting that this virus behaves as a bacteriophage."
You know, there are things I just don't want to be even partially right about.
The count of antibodies for the OG strain is ~20x that of the newer strains, and even though XBB.1.5 was targeted. Also it's antibody count is roughly similar with BA.2.86.
Since VE against infection is related to the number of antibodies, it's not likely to protect much.
To me the bigger issue is why? A couple of reasons come to mind:
Imprinting -- we are now producing antibodies to the OG strain no matter what is presented as long as it's related.
Inherent immune evasiveness of the new strains -- Are these strains inherently more evasive, implying at least this gen of shots will longer protect
It could also be a combination of these.
It implies we really need to focus on cutting down transmission as much as possible (#ZeroCovid) using respirators/air-cleaning/distancing, in addition to focusing on anti-virals to help the already infected.
@croissant the fact that we neither have mandatory #ZeroCovid policies with actual Lockdowns and Vaccinations in place is #Democide by inaction and those affected will likely be targeted by #SocialDarwinism later...
@MichRVer shared a $1/ea (min 25) rapid test sale! Thank you!! I've never used this brand and have no idea if it's showing current variants well but probably still worth it as test costs is a barrier for many right now. It may be worth stocking up to give ones to friends and family or local mutual aid groups / mask blocs https://zeroes.ca/@MichRVer/111037916984984474

Should note the nature of their straps makes them more of a one time use than Blox or Gerson duckbills (which I personally can reuse a few times but ymmv) but still a good deal!
