#CovidConscious crowd: I’m sure I saw some discussion of techniques for stapling excess #respirator material together under chin to improve fit on small faces …
But I can’t find it now and I don’t want to just start stapling willy-nilly!
I'm curious what proportion of people who don't wear a respirator indoors in public during the current airborne pandemic still consider themselves #CovidConscious or careful...
The vast majority of HCW's, educators, and PH folks in my personal network never or almost never #MaskUp anymore, but many intentionally limit their exposure by rarely leaving the house. This is likely having some impact on society writ large, but how to capture this metric?
When I got to the office, I requested masking as an accommodation. The tech came in wearing an N-95.
Tech: Are you sick?
Me: No
Tech: Then why are you wearing a mask?
Me: So I don’t get COVID
Tech: What is this? points to my HEPA filter
Me: It’s a HEPA filter. It reduces viral load in the air, including COVID particles
Tech: Oh, we should get those for the patient rooms
Me: Great idea!

Do you have any hope left? I see how governments are telling people to go to school or work sick, and pretending that "immunity debt" is a thing. Those who are still being careful are now labeled as having anxiety disorders. We're all being gaslit with statements like "there's always a lot of respiratory sickness in winter" as the hospitals are overloaded like never before. It doesn't seem to matter what medical studies show or what's in front of people's faces, the average person believes Covid is no big deal.
I get the sense that this is how things are always going to be now, except with the addition of worsening healthcare and overall health of people.
My (#COVIDconscious, very good) #realtor texted me with his first ever positive RFT results yesterday. Sadly he was totally unaware there was any sort of surge going on, I brought him up to speed on the latest greatest, did the usual recommendation of boiled #ginger (mild anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, commonly accessible at many grocers), avoid exercise. He was fever delirious, started on Paxlovid, and is recovering. The collateral damage we're seeing from the lack of effective PH is... 🤬
We could also discuss the suffering of immunocompromised or otherwise vulnerable extroverts who are still shielding due to govt & public failure to adopt v basic #PublicHealth measures.
But no, let's just keep on framing lukewarm libertarianism as leftism & rebutting alleged calls for lockdown that literally no-one is making. Yeesh
Hey #CovidConscious folks who use a Flo mask, any tips for keeping the condensation ring in place? I followed their instructions but even after washing and re-drying it is constantly brushing against my chin which is kinda annoying. #CovidIsNotOver#COVIDisAirborne
"Your mental health provider shouldn’t tell you that continuing to take safety precautions to lower your risk of infection is irrational. Anxiety and increased stress are reasonable responses (among many others) to everything that has happened in the last three years — and everything that continues to unfold."
We know 4 tests per household is a shamefully low allotment, but everyone should still get theirs. It proves we still care that covid remains a concern and a threat and that we demand more and better official support and protection to survive it.
Even if you can afford to purchase tests yourself, you can share them to larger families and households, as well as give them to free pantries or directly to your unhoused neighbors.
And remember to check ALL rapid tests you acquire against the FDA extended shelf life list! Don't risk throwing away unexpired kits!

npr’s headline “how to think about covid now” story tonight was pretty dismal. no mention of long covid or sequelae prevention at all and new studies on those topics may as well not exist. we were told to fend for ourselves as individuals and if we’re “young and healthy” to act like it’s an ordinary cold and flu season where you will get sick and that’s fine
@MichRVer shared a $1/ea (min 25) rapid test sale! Thank you!! I've never used this brand and have no idea if it's showing current variants well but probably still worth it as test costs is a barrier for many right now. It may be worth stocking up to give ones to friends and family or local mutual aid groups / mask blocs https://zeroes.ca/@MichRVer/111037916984984474

Should note the nature of their straps makes them more of a one time use than Blox or Gerson duckbills (which I personally can reuse a few times but ymmv) but still a good deal!
