The French parliament has passed legislation that will enable the Government to set a floor price for farmers products, which is reviewable every four months.
The change will guarantee a minimum rate of return for French farmers.
It seems to me that if we are ever going to break the monopoly power of #Woolworths and #Coles in #Australia, then this is the sort of forward thinking approach needed by the #Albanese Government.
They would, of course, just have to locate their collective back bone again (last seen when they changed the Stage 3 tax cuts, but misplaced soon afterwards) and stop being a largely pointless waste of space.
Four foreign aid workers and Palestinian translator killed in Israeli strike, Gaza officials say (Guardian, 2024-04-02)
———
“Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese confirmed an Australian national was among those killed while doing ‘extraordinarily important work’, naming her as Zomi Frankcom.”
“Albanese said on Tuesday the government would call in the Israeli ambassador over an incident that was ‘beyond any reasonable circumstances’, adding: ‘Australia expects full accountability for the deaths of aid workers, which is completely unacceptable.’”
@adachika192@palestine If #Albanese thinks it "unacceptable" for #Israel to murder an Australian aid worker, perhaps he could withdraw Australia's unstinting support for the #zionist occupation of #Palestine, which is the root cause of all these problems. #auspol
"...this can only be interpreted as constituting prima facie evidence of an intention to systematically destroy the #Palestinians as a group,' said [Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, Francesca Albanese] ... to the #UN#HumanRights Council today."
#Australia / PM referred to International Criminal Court accused of complicity in genocide
A team of Australian lawyers from #Birchgrove Legal has filed a 92-page document with the International Criminal Court (#ICC) accusing Australian Prime Minister Anthony #Albanese of being an accessory to genocide in #Gaza
The document, endorsed by over 100 Australian lawyers and barristers, outlines several actions by Albanese and other officials that allegedly constitute complicity, including:
Freezing aid funding to UNRWA in Gaza
Providing military aid and approving defense exports to Israel
Deploying Australian military to the region without disclosing details
Allowing Australians to join the Israeli military
Providing political support for Israel's actions in Gaza
Every single week for the last 21 weeks upon #Gadigal land, there have been thousands upon thousands (sometimes easily tens of thousands) of people gathering in support of a #ceasefire in #Gaza and calling upon the Australian #Albanese government to stop supporting #Israel in its #genocide.
Every Sunday in Hyde Park at 1.30pm,* we've listened to #Aboriginal speakers, #Palestinian speakers, #Jewish speakers, politicians of various stripes (though neither of the major parties, of course, as they both remain complicit in support of the government responsible for most of the slaughter), elders who lived through the #Naqba, teenagers organising #StudentStrike4Palestine, community leaders, poets, faith leaders and more, with perhaps 75% of the speakers being women, and almost all being people of colour (most of the exceptions being MPs).
*Except when #NSWpolice has dictated otherwise, giving priority to (much smaller and only) occasional pro-Israel rallies and forcing a shift to Saturday a couple of times, under threat of #PoliceViolence.
Then we've marched (or rolled) with flags, banners, signs, drums and (loud!) voices: Arab, Aboriginal, African, Anglo, Asian and more; from those too old to walk (in wheelchairs) to those too young to walk (in strollers).
I think it's now clear that the Israeli government would, if it could get away with it, wipe Gaza away entirely. Every brick, every remnant, every reminder, every piece of evidence that another people ever lived there before. That's the end point of this kind of political opportunism, and once you've set foot on that path, you really find it compelling to see it to the end. There's no exit ramp. There's no stopping short.
@Gwyntaglaw
Yes that's exactly what #Netanyahu wants to do. Move ppl south. Claim the North (just like Putin in Crimea and Donbas) then bomb the south and claim that as well. Nobody is offering safe haven to the #Palestinians.
What is Australia's fair share when it comes to financing the necessary climate transition?
In a headline today, the Australian government has pledged AU$150m in #ClimateFinance for Pacific nations.
Good news, right? Isn't this PM Anthony #Albanese "ending the #ClimateWars" by actually doing what #Australia ought to have done years ago? Let's consider that assumption.
Back in 2009 at the much hyped, but ultimately deeply disappointing international climate negotiations in #Copenhagen known as #COP15, one step forward that was agreed, even as more comprehensive or ambitious agreements slipped away was that the wealthy nations of the world (including #Australia) collectively pledged to be providing US$100b each year to help the poorer nations transition away from #FossilFuels (#ClimateMitigation) and develop in ways that help societies adapt to the warming that cannot be mitigated (#ClimateAdaptation).

So, today's announcement by PM #Albanese is at least a re-engagement with the global community on #ClimateFinance after years of #Coalition isolationism. However, it is worth noting that of the AU$150m announced today, only $50m goes to the #GreenClimateFund, with $100m directed towards a different multilateral body, the Pacific Resilience Facility. That's the equivalent of about US$33m, or 0.002% of Australia's #GNI of roughly US$1.6 trillion (2022 figures).
To be contributing the 0.22% of GNI mentioned earlier, Australia would need to contribute more than one hundred times that much each year (around US$3.5b, or AU$5.3b).

Increases in deaths outstripping hospitalisations strongly suggest deaths in aged care businesses. (AIUI many aged care recipients don't go to hospital when they get Covid and instead die in the business's premises.
How are the #CleanAir regulations for those lethal money-churners going #Albo
Oh that's right, there aren't any clean air regulations and so hundreds of residents are going to keep on dieing.
#Albanese how many you thinking will die on your watch?
It's not quite the same as seeing how far you can drive the school bus with your eyes shut.
There's probably less than a hundred lives at risk in that particular stupid experiment.
Amazing. Reminiscent of #Morrison's Covid debacle.
Disappointed, but wear a mask, get vaxed, isolate if sick, anyway.
Comes to 24 #Covid deaths a week in Victoria.
3.4 deaths a day.
How many of these deaths are due to #Albanese not introducing #CleanAir#AirFiltering standards for workplaces, hospitals, aged care facilities, schools, restaurants, pubs and clubs?
It’s worth remembering that the Liberal party, under Peter #Dutton, began running a soft NO campaign almost immediately after the federal election.
The Nationals announced their opposition to the voice before the question was even put forward.
The referendum was on what Indigenous leaders who co-signed the Uluru statement from the heart had asked for.
It was not Labor’s request nor was it a self-starter policy from Labor or Anthony #Albanese.
It was the request of the Indigenous leaders who had been asked by Tony #Abbott to form a consensus on what form of constitutional recognition they thought was best.
The answer was the #Uluru statement from the heart – #voice truth, treaty.
So this idea that the government didn’t work hard enough to get bipartisan support is #bullshit.
If they had given the #Coalition what it said it wanted (with no guarantees it still wouldn’t have tanked the referendum), then #Labor would have been compromising what Indigenous people had asked for – and it wasn’t Labor’s compromise to make.
This wasn’t just politics. It never is.
But for the opposition to now turn around and blame the government “for a missed opportunity” when it spent the last year doing what it could to destroy the voice proposal – which included asking misleading “questions” – is not only transparently predictable, it is another sad indictment of the state of political “debate” in this country. #auspol
The surprising thing about this #pezullo business is that he is still there.
Genuinely surprised he kept his position after May 22.
Not remotely surprised records exist describing his politically partisan behaviour.
Exactly the same as Ita. We should not have to wait until someone leaks records of conversation to know Morrison's #abcnews pick is an LNP stooge. Why so slow #Albanese ?
Old people dieing in a aerosol transmitted pandemic when the #Albanese government has made no #CleanAir regulations to protect them.

Get yourselve some #AirFiltration engineer advisors #Albo - your current lot of #RCDBTDevotees are running up the death toll.
😞
How many more you want on your watch?
