The locks toward Haigh Hall are deep. Their massive gates weigh more than a tonne each. A number of the gates have chains and pulleys to help boaters open and close them.

I am constantly amazed that the older folks around here aren't all dead of chemical-caused cancer, given how much Roundup and pesticides are applied to their yards. (These folks pay for monthly chemical dousing, even if there are NO PESTS to apply those chemicals too -- we call it the Visit From The Merchants Of Death).
