We have limited ieji.de today after learning that its moderators have repeatedly failed to act on reports of transphobia, racism, and misinformation. Several reports were forwarded from us that were entirely without consequences; one such user continued to harass others and post nazi dogwhistles after receiving a warning from a moderator that was not followed up on. Even public complaints only resulted in a limit.
Barring any improvements in moderation, we will defederate from ieji.de in two weeks (Monday April 15, 2024). At that point, all of our users who follow someone on ieji.de (and vice versa) will be unable to do so.
If your blocklist is public and was picked up by a blocklist-scraper, SPW probably already proactively blocked you. If it didn’t or if you want to cover your bases, you’ll need to update your entry.
Lawd save us from the folks who say that defederating from Threads is censorship.
Facebook has consistently shown itself to be somewhere between ambivalent and openly hostile towards a huge segment of the population. Removing it is akin to a public service.

If Gargron et al won't reconsider or even adhere to their own guidelines about problematic servers, then their servers should also be cast out to live among the Truth.socials, because they're effectively saying they don't give a steaming pile about what the Fediverse stands for or the users therein.

Musk is amplifying users who will incorporate cherry-picked data and misleading graphs into their argument as to why people of European descent are biologically superior, giving fringe accounts like i/o a drastic jump in followers. The i/o account has even thanked Musk for raising “awareness” last year.
@wjmaggos@Gargron If the two links I provided in the original post do not meet your bar for defederation then there’s something wrong with your bar. It also tells me your instance is not a safe space for vulnerable groups. And if your instance happens to be the flagship one and you’re fine with this, it tells me you’re legitimising this behaviour on the greater network.

I too had my own #XMPP server back in the day and federated with #Google and their #GoogleTalk and saw first hand when they unilaterally broke the federation and all my friends stayed there. I ended up so burnt out that I didn't host or manage a server again until this year with #Mastodon.
We recommend suspending theblab.org. It basically describes itself as “a place for gab refugees, s***posters, and friends” and “ place for refugees of places that claim to be free speech..”
The admin’s profile is filled with hate speech and the such as the admin boosts pretty hateful content.
Really now? Another person thinking the solution to bad actors on fedi is to create a hashtag with the explicit intention of dogpiling them. A brigading hashtag was not a solution to women being trolled and POC being targeted is no different. You are just throwing gas on a fire.
If you encounter racism report it. If your admin doesn’t act then migrate. If the instance that account is on doesn’t get suspended then defederate it. That is exactly what moderation is for. 💯
@jdm2 the problem is how you go about warning the community. If you use a hashtag then people like that will learn about it and the hashtag becomes a target. Same way #FediBlock is abused now. People still use it for this purposes and I have seen it lead to dogpiling. I think the private groups feature that Mastodon is working on could be a pretty good solution for what you are suggesting but the feature is not finished yet.
