So, I may be a "doomsayer" (I consider myself a realist), but I'm always trying to see if there's a solution to getting us out of the mess we're in. Perhaps I would describe myself as an optimistic pessimist. Anyhow, based on my recent research, here are some of the solutions I think we (humanity) should pursue collectively...

  1. Plug up the ! Seriously! That's a big part of the problem!

  2. Make the price of expensive! I remember when having meat was considered a special occasion -- not a daily occurrence.

  3. Make things out of . Now that we've cracked the recipe, there's no excuse not to use it! Especially with rising sea levels (Roman concrete holds up better when exposed to water).

  4. Manufacture stuff that lasts! No more -- items that can't be upgraded and/or repaired by a skilled user or a local repair shop!

  5. Grow food locally! Turn empty spaces into (and ).

  6. Utilize new (and ancient) technologies to the max! , reflective white paint, building new structures with , and other ways to cool/heat spaces without using !

That's just a few off the top of my head. I think a lot of the solutions are right in front of us -- but and are keeping them from being implemented!

#light is the new #dark 😜️
When I worked at the computer predominantly in the #office (#often at night), I used #darkmode almost all the time.
Now that I am more often in front of a display #outside and in #bright #daylight, I rediscover #lightmode.
On the screen grab you can see the new light shell variant coming to #gnome45 (mimicked by the Light Shell extension).
I find it interesting how such a small change can bring so much joy. 😇️

I have a great idea for all those empty executive offices!

Turn 👋 them 👋 into 👋 farms 👋!

Like eighty acres farms but in old office buildings instead of new warehouses!

Offset farms being turned into housing and and other non AG uses, prevent downtown collapses of economy, there's a lot of win imo

kkarhan,

@BsCreativeLife If and basics like sanitary requirements didn't ban it I'm shure a lot of buildings would've been converted to ages ago...

Guardian opinion piece on the UK scandal, by Marina Hyde
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jul/18/post-office-scandal-cover-up-justice?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
'in which totally innocent subpostmasters, the very backbone of villages and communities, were turned into criminals to cover up the fact that the Post Office’s Horizon computer system didn’t work properly. Each was told by the that no one else had any problems with the system. Vast sums were effectively looted from them to make up accounting shortfalls, before they were prosecuted anyway'

fulelo,
@fulelo@journa.host avatar

'new revelations, like the discovery of a document proving that investigators were ordered to group suspected subpostmasters in racial categories such as “negroid types” and “dark-skinned European types”. This advice was still in use in 2011. That document was also somehow not put before the inquiry, would you believe, along with tens of thousands of others the Post Office has been accused of serially withholding'

I am really pleased with how my Damn Dirty Lies poster looks on the wall in my home office. I love Bob's Burgers, so when I went on a letterpress printing course earlier this year I thought I would pay homage by making this poster.

To the photographers who follow me - can you guess which famous photographer made the other five photos on my wall?

I'm starting to think about improving my home office setup (especially in terms of video calls), and it looks like one "easy win" is to set up a teleprompter: It will let me position a camera such that I can look "through" someone when talking to them.

I don't suppose anyone who follows me here has any advice on how to pick a good one?
