Heidi Siegmund Cuda has choice words for the many Democrats who abet the political right by refusing solidarity with other Democrats as they tear away at Biden and the Democratic party on purist grounds: She tells them they're doing Putin's work for him.
"I had lunch with a pair of Democratic politicos recently, and listened to them tell me 'Biden’s too old.'”
"And despite wanting to yell at peak volume across the metaphorical canyons that separate pro-democracy activists with entrenched Dems, I politely stated:
'You do realize the choice is democracy vs fascism? You understand the only thing that stands between a fascist America and democracy continuing is Joe Biden?' ...
I continued: 'Joe Biden is the hope we have against becoming a fascist dictatorship.'"
"'Everything will be used against him by the Russians. No need to give them more leverage by engaging in Biden bashing. A little strategy please from the left to defeat the very real fascist threat would be good.'
In subsequent conversations on the same topic, I have heard well meaning leftists floating the Idea of Bob."
"So in the face of fascism, you have to realize that some of the agenda of the left is not going to be carried over, but you have to save the country from fascism.
It’s going to have to be a broad coalition."
A big amen to this. Americans in general and US leftists in particular just do not get the concept of solidarity, and this is why the left remains always weak and on the defensive. We do the right's work by tearing at each other on purist ideological grounds.
For years, I've watched those on the left for whom religion is anathema mount ugly, solidarity-destroying attacks on those on the left who are highly motivated by religious belief. I've watched people in minority communities (both race and gender communities) inform those outside their community that they have no right to talk about or engage with those within the minority communities – when what we desperately need is to bridge divides and build solidarity.

"We are told that to leave the safety of a brightly lit path, the happiness path, the straight path, would be to cause your own misfortune, to steal your own future happiness, such that if something happens, if the worst happens, and let’s face it, shit happens, then you have brought this upon yourself."
#Amazon#Canada: we are seeing Amazon roll out its despicable #UnionBusting tactics just like it has around the world. But we know the solution is global worker #solidarity
"It is unconscionable that, in 2024, a government department is being run by a two tier workforce where the mainly Black, brown and migrant cleaners are treated like second class citizens.”

The passing of the #MigrationPact shows a clear priority of state interests over human rights.
But as #EU member states and agencies find "solidarity" in border policing, surveillance and violence, civil society must find #solidarity in our resistance.

" Transformational solidarity is .. the quiet, consistent work of education, of unlearning centuries-old prejudices. Most critically, it is relearning history from the perspectives of those who systematically continue to be silenced and erased. "
"Active Duty Airman Refuses to Eat While Gaza Starves." "It's just completely wrong and immoral for civilians to be starved and bombed and targeted in any manner," says Hebert. "I'm hoping that other active-duty members will be more public with their concern over the atrocities happening in Gaza.“
