The Dude ran like the wind from the cat box to the back of the recliner with so much force he almost knocked it over. He then look at me and said “what?” 😼 #Today#CatsOfMastodon
Having sifted through my options between harder and easier, I will likely go with Proton Drive as that will allow me to combine costs into one service. It will save me money, and that makes me quite happy. I will still use a Microsoft account due to having an Xbox and password less login…
However, my reliance on them is greatly lessened. I will be less reliant on Google too, there are some accounts that are a pain in the ass to change. In 2024 that is untenable!
So in my attempt to get away from Microsoft, due to their bullshit. I am looking into Nextcloud. The installation process seems a bit complicated, but I could likely manage it after reading the instructions repeatedly.
I need to first see how much it will cost per month as a private user to have a Nextcloud Account.
Ugh, Microsoft and Google make it so easy at the cost of privacy. It's time to take chances with self-hosting to have control of my data back!
I have to say that I'm getting tired of watching the UPS guy drive around my house in a circle for hours and hours while not delivering my new tablet for eval.
I installed the PPA of LibreOffice because the Snap version is garbage. However, thankfully, the other Snaps I use aren't terrible. I will continue to vary the ways I install programs, using the best versions of each. As this is a good way to approach installing software on Ubuntu!
My cerebral weather was a little rougher this morning. My equanimity saw me through and I will spend some more time on and off the stool processing.
#today I have some preparation for a three day $dayjob planning summit at our HQ in DC that starts tomorrow. Otherwise I expect the day to be quiet as most of my colleagues are traveling.
Good morning, lovely people! The garden is starting to really pop off. I have sunflower seed babies and a baby lilies. On the book: yardwork, fold laundry, either take my Persephone muslin apart to start the real work or finally start sewing the Ogden nightgowns that I cut out a month ago. #today#gardening#bloomscrolling
Well..it's foggy out here and I can't wait to see how dense it is out at the lake..slept okay last night and I'm still trying to figure out what changed so i can sleep on my back again...have yard work to do today to fill the the bag I've had in the garage for a week now...lots of tree trimming to keep the branches high enough so I don't hit them when I'm mowing..going to do another 38 miles outdoors so I need to get on the bike before 7:30. a little worn out again today...good morning! #today
Ran into my first issue with Ubuntu, GNOME Tweaks made my system act up on the X session but not Wayland…Of course, this issue happened just as I needed to be out the door!
However, on my way to work I figured out how to reset my mouse cursor to default. A CLI command while not logged in will correct my mouse issue. I will uninstall GNOME Tweaks as it doesn’t play well with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Today, I made a lot of progress in Red Dead Redemption 2. Arthur died a lot today due to those Lemoyne Raiders who execute the worst ambushes in this game! It is a nice challenge when I am ready to get jumped but Arthur is always putting away his guns and that gets him killed. So many stranger quests were carried out in addition to the main quests; I indulged in playing more this morning due to putting off a cleaning session until tomorrow morning.
I am enjoying a slow start to my morning #today before starting work on weekly chores.
I may get around to the writing I was thinking about working on yesterday. Maybe I will focus on simply getting an outline sketched out then see what else I have the appetite for.
Today has begun much better than yesterday did, with a cool and sunny walk outside. A few of my daisies have bloomed, but the majority of the hundred or so flowers are still to come. Daisies are one of my favorite flowers and I look forward to the blooms every year.
I have no big plans for the day, just writing some, reading some, doing a few chores.
I did more software archeology #today and was able to validate my findings in the code with my first peers, the other principal engineers. I am grateful for these peers, I have not had any at my level of responsibility in a few years. So far, this is a solid group of pros and I also enjoy their company. I look forward to seeing them all in person next week.
ID Appointment accomplished; my new picture is a jump scare but at least I am good until at least 2040! My clerk was friendly and fixed the fact the JR on my name wasn't on my ID. I didn't need to bring all the things that I gathered...Since I already had Real ID on my card. The appointment took just 10 minutes, I think the cost went up as it cost me $27.00.
Also, I found out I qualify for permanently mail-in advanced ballots because I'm HIV+ so I will get that done ASAP.
LOL, I hate it when an appointment later in the day puts me in a state of not being able to play games or do anything beyond watching videos or writing casually (can't focus too deeply). For a valid ID, I will deal with this annoyance. I will need a valid ID to vote in Elections or resisting shitty Republican additions to the state/federal level laws.
