Brave Browser -vs- Firefox on Android.

Brave cannot block even the publicly known and basic ads and trackers.

See for yourself: https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html

Brave: 25% of the ads and trackers sneak by.

Firefox: 0% can sneak by —100% blocked.

The reality is you cannot trust chromium bace browsers. Only 1 web browser can block ads and that is, Mozilla Firefox.

Vivaldi browser -vs- Firefox Android

Once more, another chromium type browser, and once more, only Mozilla Firefox can block ads and trackers.

Again, see for yourself: https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html

This test only covers some of the simplest and basics of ads and trackers. Nothing as sophisticated as you may find out in the wild, and yet, neither Brave Browser or Vivaldi Browser, can block 100%, but Mozilla Firefox does.

Arguably, Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser can still move to Apple WebKit or Mozilla Gecko or go their own way.

Will that be easy? Of course, not. Google does not make it easy to leave their ecosystem —no monopoly does.

But a united front against Google (and Microsoft) stands a chance. The key phase there is, united front.

The whole reason people do not just use Google Chrome is because they want an alternative. Many of them don't know they're using Chromium, but still desire an alternative.

That need for an alternative is what Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser, provides. That has always been their opportunity.

If they were ever going to leave Google, they should do so now, before Google's so-called proposed standard is standardized.

If I were still a Reddit user, this would be perfect for r/LeopardsAteMyFace

Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser could have

  1. Fork Mozilla Firefox (Gecko)

  2. Fork Apple WebKit

  3. Made their engine.

They had 2 open source development projects to pick from, or they could have done it themselves, but instead they picked the company that does not play well with others (Google)

Now you both want to say how unfair and unjust Google is being. Well, DUH!

Brave Browser and Vivaldi Browser could have:

  1. Forked Mozilla Firefox (Gecko)

  2. Forked Apple WebKit

  3. Made their own browser engine.

They did none of that. They picked Google with Chromium (Blink).

Google, the company that collects user data and makes money selling ad space.

Google, the company not known for transparency.

You had 2 open source projects to pick from or gone your own, but you picked, Google.

You made the wrong choice!

The Web Environmental Integrity (WEI) proposal, will pass, it is too late for the pebbles to vote, the avalanche has already started.

Brave can call itself a fork all at wants. It's a chromium base browser and by empowering chromium you empowered Google. The same is true with the Vivaldi browser

The reality is more than 90% of all web browsers today are chromium based

Now you have Google and Microsoft joining forces under a chromium umbrella with Microsoft edge and Google Chrome

You can cry foul. You could say it's unfair. But you chose this

Honestly, what did you think was going to happen when you empowered a huge corporation that did not support true transparency and open standards?

You picked Google Blink because it was a shortcut from not developing your own browser engine. You choose Chromium, as a shortcut and now it is time to pay the price. The free lunch is over!

You fed the wrong wolf. You made the wrong choice

@Vivaldi When adding bookmarks on the fly to folders, (from the address bar) it no longer shows anything but the exact thing I am typing at the moment into the search - so it's difficult for someone with a bad memory and lots of folder nesting - not sure if it's a bug, or something others are experiencing. Would love to know, thanks 😊🙏

Have you ever tried the web browser, Firefox, and thought something wasn't right about it?

If you have, I suggest you give Firefox Nightly a try.

It loads pages faster, starts up quicker, and uses fewer resources.

I have long stopped asking why that is and have just come to accept it. It's been this way for over 10yrs now.

For me the best way to access is in my browser. @Vivaldi comes with a Vivaldi Social panel, but it is easy to add any Mastodon server into a panel as well. Try it out!

captainb,

@jon @Vivaldi The best app to access Mastodon is a web browser & Vivaldi is the best browser.

@Vivaldi has their own instance. Hopefully this will increase adoption.

I'd like the option to import another instance to the , although the current implementation is apparently just a standard sidebar page.

Hopefully they'll include an actual client in the browser like they've done with mail and calendar. Considering the various software implementations of that could be challenging.

But hey, at least we can have the side bar!

Did users ever want more than the two streams we offer by default (stable and snapshot)?

Maybe you want to run mail on its own or pretest the latest snapshot before upgrading your main profile?

It is possible. I thought about writing about it but not sure if anyone would care besides a tester like me.

Privacy is important.

Using things like Vivaldi's tracker blocker will make it harder to for those with ill intentions to recognise you and build up a profile of your activities.

I live my life this way, nobody tracks me, as I always blend right in! 🤔

We have passed the 15,000 followers mark on our account here on Vivaldi Social 🎉

This is a great time to thank everyone for welcoming us on Mastodon! :tony_wee:

It’s fantastic to see the community grow and thrive 🤩

We hope that by hosting our own instance, we have helped people who have migrated from other platforms to find a new home in this magical place.

It’s great to have you here!✨

@Vivaldi As a user I signed up through your Mastodon instance because having an existing Vivaldi account made the process so easy.

So yes, you definitely have helped many get into mastodon 👍🙏

Any users running into issues with audio streaming following the last update?

Since updating, Spotify and Amazon each stop playback after ~10 seconds. I've disabled extensions and still no dice.

Opinion: needs stricter . If they are really all about privacy then they should have test results similar to Brave (https://privacytests.org/nightly.html). I understand they they say that “they only block known trackers” or whatever but seriously, if you really want good privacy why not just block everything?
