Do any of you who ride have any experience with bikes? My husband is very close to purchasing the City Model 1. Pluses? Minuses?

It is already one of those when immediate seems like a good idea. How is your day going?

Today my husband encountered the donut hole. It is not something delicious to eat, but instead and unexpectedly large co-pay on a medication that has not been overly expensive until now. Our system truly stinks. Plotting how we'll get around this on our three upcoming trips to Canada.

I went to an training a few months ago. Out of that emerged a question I want to pursue through conversations with my here in , but also more broadly. That question is: What is the role we need to play in our community now? The more personal question I'll be pursuing is what is my path to becoming an ? I welcome all input, questions, discussion and other interested in this journey.

A personality test someone recommended just said I'm "the life of every party" which may be the most hilarious thing I hear all day.

Ran across this terrific local band called Sweet Sheiks as we were walking through the Riverwest neighborhood in last night.

Yesterday was such a terrific day. I got to play games for the first time. (It's just been lessons until now.) I held my own. My team won 3 out of 4 games. Hubby and I went out to dinner at an empanada place in the Riverwest neighborhood here in . And then we headed over to watch the beginning of the Riverwest 24, an annual 24 hour event. There are 1500 riders, 750 volunteers and, once again, no corporate sponsorships. It's just a great event.

A large crowd featuring some of the fun costumes for the Riverwest 24 cycling event.

JulieEmery,

@CoachTim I’m definitely falling in love with the sport!

The block party won't start for another hour. Setup isn't for half an hour. But I've been organizing this thing for a couple months and I just couldn't wait any longer. Chairs set up!

I saw it. I had to have it. I brought it home.

I have two shades of pink echinacea, light and dark. And I have a red one and a yellow one. When I saw this orange one, I knew I ‘needed’ it.

JulieEmery,

@LeftLane Gorgeous! I have red, pink and the traditional purple.

*Following week, email arrives.

"I'm not reading that."

JulieEmery,

@Skepticat Apparently no one under 40 reads emails, or at least not before they have aged to the point where they are not useful. Meetings are attended, but no one is fully present. Interesting times.

@researchbuzz @jadevol Best beer jingle ever. Thanks for sharing!

Harvested a few beets today, the first beets from the garden. There will be roast beets with the salmon tonight. This is the time of year I feel all is right with the world. I'm pretending the wildfire smoke does not exist.

Are you a "Wigwam" or "Row" person? The smaller plants in the foreground are climbing French Beans (Blue Lake). The taller ones are runner beans (White Lady) which I have found reliable and totally stringless in the driest weather in the southern UK. The French beans are cropping well.

JulieEmery,

@edintone I am not good at rows. And the truth is, nothing in nature grows in rows. Rows are a human need to keep things orderly. But it's actually better in terms of pest and disease control if you are not creating monocultures in your . That is also how I justify my messiness in my garden!

I've been thinking about the generational differences in how we look at our homes. This article really gets to the changes that have happened. I've discovered a wonderful thing about getting older. Lately, when people are round the house or turn up for whatever reason, when I'm done I just say "Well - I'm done and am going to kick you out now because I'm tired and want to go to bed."

Noone seems to be offended, they leave my house and I get to go to bed.

It's like a superpower.

I've taken to telling people when they invite me out "No, I won't be there but have fun."

When will it end? Is this even legal?

JulieEmery,

@TheBreadmonkey I just fall asleep on my couch and they take the hint!
