In the Algebraicist by Ian M. Banks some aliens come to earth in early human history and take a bunch of humans and human DNA and set them up all over the galaxy— get them up to speed on tech and those humans and the aliens just leave Earth alone to develop “naturally” — so when humans on earth eventually explore the galaxy some of the aliens they meet are just other humans. (this is just a minor plot point if you can imagine)

So if this happened are you mad? Or no?

KanaMauna,
@KanaMauna@sauropods.win avatar

@futurebird Mad, no. Terrified, yes, because human history shows us that there will be few peaceful encounters in space.

Campaign blames the intern.

I guess we should be happy they aren't just doubling down and saying "what's wrong with unity" or whatever.

The Intern.

That doesn't explain anything!
Why do you have lil nazi interns? (we know why)

You know the early humans who lived in Europe 25k years ago? The ones with stone tools who carved thicc portable woman statues?

How many do you think there were in all of Europe?

I'm shocked to learn the estimates are only 30,000 people! Hardly even a small town... and spread over so much space. Humans were rare animals. Our shift to numerous is more extreme than I think we realize.

It explains why technology changed so slowly. Not enough people!

I like Expendable.

It’s basically a 3D polygonal run-and-gun shooter with broad similarities to Contra. It’s not a terribly deep game, but this is basically an arcade-like game.

When you start the game, you have “5 credits” – think of these credits as the equivalent of quarters. Each credit gives you three lives and after your quarters end, it’s game over. But unlike your typical arcade game, you can save your progress should you choose to quit.

But man, the default controls made me realize how far we’ve come with PC gaming. This is one of those games that defaults the movement with arrow keys, fire with space key, and demands a dedicated strafe key. Thankfully, you can change the default controls to WASD, change fire buttons to left and right mouse button, and you can aim with mouse. Also, because this is an old game, be sure to set your mouse to 800dpi or else everything will be too sensitive.

I also haven’t been able to find a mod that supports modern resolutions with widescreen support. However, I don’t mind the low res graphics and find them charming. The way this game looks should be thoroughly enjoyable for anyone who appreciates late 90s games.

Rage Software made this game. I know them from Gun Metal, which was a great mech game and I still play it today. However, they’re perhaps best known for Rocky which, by all accounts, was a fun boxing game.

When I speak about the late 90s and early ‘2000s now being retro, this is a case in point. Games like this simply aren’t being made anymore.

The disturbing thing about ant technology is it's all ants.

The fridge? It's an ant.
Your tank? It's an ant.
Your boat? It's you, and other ants.
Your house? The walls are ants.
Your weed control for your garden? Tiny ants?
Your glue gun? It's an ant (a baby ant!)

So advanced high tech ants would have ant guns, and ant spaceships. Advanced ants would have ant computers for ants, made of ants. Advanced ants would have ants for storing data.

And ant bombs.

Wait! Those already exist!

Biden's not--
Marxism isn't--
Fascism doesn't--

Those aren't even--

This is beyond a Gish Gallop (lies so thick you can't sound sane as you counter them all)

Okay, so something that been living rent-free in my head today: a woman I know is distraught because she’s 37-years-old and doesn’t think she’ll find a man with small toes.

And small toes are a dealbreaker for her.

But for the life of me… aren’t all toes small? I really am empathetic towards her. I just don’t understand how small a small toe is.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this ideal man has to have big feet and small toes. Size 12 and higher. But this big footed man must have small toes.

Generally, I hate DRM because it doesn’t prevent piracy. It just penalizes customers for having the wherewithal to buy the product.

The pirates? They love DRM because there’s nothing they love more than the challenge of a crack. To them, DRM is literally a game.

For people who buy software with DRM, it just makes life more inconvenient.

KanaMauna,
@KanaMauna@sauropods.win avatar

@atomicpoet

I don't think software companies understand how much revenue they've lost to DRM. By the mid-nineties I essentially stopped buying computer games because I was sick of being locked out everytime I got a new system or moved (and I moved a lot back then). 30+ years latter I still avoid DRM like whenever I can. I am sure countless other middle-aged users do too.

I forgot to open a window when I did my 20 minute workout this evening. In the course of a brief workout in a decent sized bedroom, the CO2 went from a safe 600 PPM to an unsafe 1285. That level isn't life-threatening, but it does decrease your brain power and cause drowsiness. Amazing that all it takes is 20 minutes of one person exercising in a room.
