I live in the Dystopian Disunited Kingdom. I'm here to be informed of corruption, nebulous networks and shady government plans.

Really, I'm just a high-functioning potato, so cut me some slack 😏

A timely reminder from Adam Bienkov of Byline, following the speech yesterday:
"A reminder that Rishi Sunak's family's business Infosys boasts of its partnership with "two of the top five integrated oil and gas companies, three of the top four oilfield services providers, and five of the top 10 upstream enterprises across the oil and gas landscape.”

The man's just another grifter, like all of them. But he's more dangerous because he is more eloquent and connected. It's going be really interesting to see how this last ditch attempt to weaponize a greed crisis they created pans out in the polls. Will some people fall for the rhetoric? Or will they see how he's just kicking the problems they have created down the road?
I found his speech entirely demoralising. Ironically released the same day as Chris Packham's documentary.

I did watch it, yes. Very interesting. Divisions in society are beginning to play out in the run up to the election. And yes, Slippery Sunak is extremely dangerous. His gaslighting is Trumpian, but masked with carefully coordinated eloquence instead of bumbling defensiveness.
Johnson and Truss laid the groundwork but Sunak is taking it to the bank, at least whilst he still can.

Today I made six or seven trips down the road and back again to collect woodchip from where the council felled a back alley tree.
I walked back and forth past my pal Hendrix so many times he stopped coming out to greet me and finally just sat there looking at me, confused.

So in the rush for 's doors, MPs exiting at the next election have found there is a glut on the market - its getting harder & harder for MPs & ex-Ministers to find sinecures on boards or with consultants - in a crowded market (and with damaged goods) the price (that is fees/wages) is dropping & buyers are becoming more particular about the 'talent' on offer... looking forward to the first story of an ex-MP being a minicab driver (we can but hope)

As I noted a few days ago, Hall has said she would scrap 20mph speed limits in , even though her campaign ( https://www.saferwithsusan.co.uk/ ) has the slogan "Safer With Susan". She also supports the Restore Trust, critics of the National Trust's attempts to cover the history of their properties ( https://bylinetimes.com/2023/08/30/conservative-london-mayoral-candidate-susan-hall-backs-fringe-right-wing-restore-trust-that-challenges-criticism-of-empire/ )

The article linked below is about flooding in Hong Kong and in cities across southern China, caused by the heaviest rainfall in at least 140 years.

But it’s not only happening there.

Torrential rains have caused devastating floods in Greece, in Libya, in Chile, in Brazil, in parts of the United States, and elsewhere, taking many lives and doing billions of dollars in damage to infrastructure and property all around the world.

This is not normal. It’s not just 'bad weather'.

We’re seeing Earth’s climate begin to break down right in front of our eyes.

I think within a certain timeframe the word 'apocalypse' will enter the mainstream narrative.
I think, given the state of the media and those who control it, this timeframe will be longer than one might expect.

They kind of are in it together, at least Labour and the Tories. They play the game of Oppositional Switcheroo every few years to maintain the illusion of choice, but their financial masters are ultimately the same despite differences in the details of specific lobbyists.
Proportional representation is an excellent idea but they would never allow their exclusive power to be torn from them, and so they dance their dance. It's not a democracy, it's a British Democracy.
