#HunterBiden had reportedly dropped off the MacBookPro at a computer repair shop in 2019 & never reclaimed it.
The shop owner [for some reason] contacted #Republican lawmakers & #politicians to review the hundreds of thousands of emails & msgs in the laptop.

An #FBI agent testified that investigators obtained a #warrant to search the laptop’s msgs & “found evidence of addiction.” duh, he’s been VERY open about his struggles w/ [#addiction]

Prosecutors claimed they were attempting to corroborate the battles of #addiction that #HunterBiden described in his memoir w/real-time msgs in his hard drive & iCloud.

#FBI agent Erika Jensen testified that Hunter’s cloud data & laptop held msgs from 2018 which showed drug habits, using codes like “baby powder” & “chore boy” for crack cocaine.

A series of WhatsApp msgs recovered from Biden’s iCloud account were shown to the jury, & appear to show Biden arranging deliveries of drugs.

In one exchange, #HunterBiden appeared to feel he’d been cheated & sent a picture of white powder on a green-colored bank or credit card. [you know you’re in deep when you photo document your illegal drugs]
Other msgs the #FBI agent said were found on the laptop appeared to show him discussing smoking crack w/a friend in Aug 2018, shortly before he did a 2-wk prgm in #rehab.

The #FBI agent said they were able to confirm that the laptop taken from the repair shop was #HunterBiden’s partly from his iCloud data, which contained an invoice from the shop [wait - an invoice for the repair was on the laptop before the work was done? Remember, he never picked it up]

Opponents say the #Arizona ballot measure will do nothing to improve #border #security or prevent #asylum seekers from arriving. Instead, they say, it will replicate the paranoia & turmoil that #Latino & #immigrant communities experienced after Gov #JanBrewer signed #SB1070, a divisive state #immigration-enforcement #law passed by #Republicans in 2010 that came to be known as the “show me your papers law.” That law sparked years of protests & litigation, & has since been partially struck down.

#Arizona’s new proposal is similar to #laws passed by #Republicans in #Texas & #Iowa that challenged the #federal government’s exclusive #power to enforce #immigration laws. The #Biden admin has sued to block the TX & IA laws, calling them #unconstitutional.

Politicians on both sides said they expected the proposed AZ #law to face #legal challenges if voters pass it.

The measure, which needs a majority to pass, is called the Secure the #Border Act. Along w/the #policing provisions, it’d also increase #prison sentences for anyone who sells #fentanyl* that results in an #overdose death, & would make it a #state #crime for #undocumented workers to provide false info to the #EVerify screening system.

The prgm has only a few rules: Lawmakers cannot be repaid for principal or interest on their mortgages, they can only get reimbursement for days they’re actually working in or flying to DC, & they can’t ask for more than their actual expenses. They’re also subject to daily spending caps determined by the GSA. They are “strongly encouraged,” but not required, to keep #records of their #expenses, acc/to guidance issued by the #House Cmte on Admin.

The same rules apply to every member. But lawmakers’ reimbursements have varied widely, & bc the prgm doesn’t require #receipts or public #disclosure of what members are #expensing, #taxpayers have to take lawmakers’ word that they’re playing by the rules.
Of the 435 voting members of the #House, 319 members — 153 #Democrats & 166 #Republicans — received reimbursement for some food/lodging expenses last yr, + 3 delegates from #US territories. The other 116 members received no reimbursements….

#Republican #MattGaetz, the prgm’s overall top spender, was reimbursed for nearly $30k in lodging #expenses & >$10k for food in 2023. He was reimbursed >$4k for lodging in 2 different months & >$3k in 5 different months.

A spox for #Gaetz said he was reimbursed for expenses when the #House was out of session but he was in DC on ofcl business related to his post on the select cmte on #weaponization of the federal govt.…

Other members of the cmte expensed SIGNIFICANTLY less than Gaetz.

Tho votes were still being counted Tues afternoon & the Modi-led #BJP could still form the govt, it was projected to fall short of its showing in 2014, when #Modi swept to #power on a wave of national #anger over #corruption, or 2019, when buoyed by #nationalist sentiment over a border clash w/ #Pakistan. Such a result would be rare for the politician who has never failed to secure a majority in a 23+yr political career & cultivates an image as a #populist #strongman & a serial winner.

Yet the mood shifted dramatically as early vote counts trickled in Tues morning & indicated that the #BJP might not single-handedly secure the 272 seats needed in the 543-member #LokSabha lower house, as it comfortably did in 2014 & 2019.
