Being hyper-abled and disabled are not mutually exclusive. That's why there are terms for people who exist at both ends of the ability/disability spectrum at the same time. "Twice exceptional", "idiot savant", "splinter skills", "spiky skill profile"... These are a few of the terms invented specifically to describe such a pattern. Autistic people, in particular, are likely to fit this pattern.

Qbitzerre,

@hosford42 @JoBlakely it's true. I'm unable to fly without the crutch of an airplane to overcome this disability.

It's a bit sad when people block you for a post without even looking at your bio. Liberals on Twitter are so used to trolls that they continue playing in here. Not really understanding that some threads are people learning & collaborating.

Being free to discuss, even criticise Biden, as a way of understanding solutions to the fuckery facing us.

I get these "Fuck you Russian troll!" messages, then the account dissappear.

I hate Putin just as much as they do.
I also hate genocide.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@hakona @RustyBertrand I boil over in frustration at the thought that people are suckered by token political gestures that mask the insidious shuffle toward fascism supported by nominal liberals. I am infuriated by my perception that people are perennially susceptible to the oldest political game of negative campaigning and will openly declare surrender to acquire the comfort of conformity.

JFC, people in tech are really out there saying that language models will be better at therapy, financial advice, and career advice than trained people.

WTF is wrong with you people? Do you really have no clue about what other people’s jobs actually involve?

Language models can’t even do maths how are they supposed to get good at financial advice?

And therapy? Just… 😑

What’s wrong with people in tech?

I see Gina Carano is back in the news, so I’ll resurrect an old tweet on the subject:

Comparing trivial or reasonable things to the Holocaust is a form of Holocaust denialism.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman Maybe you were absent for the Compare part of the Compare and Contrast lessons in school?

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman I understood the implied contrast. You are projecting now.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman you made no effort to recognize that even an over-the-top comparison can be valid. Moreover, Carano's statement is predicated on acknowledgement that the holocaust occurred. Furthermore, the phrase "Never again" is an admonition to be alert to early stages of a holocaust. Regardless of whether you think Carano's invocation is silly or exploitative, her statement is not denialism, but rather demonstrates an appreciation you ignore. It is inherently the opposite of denialism.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman Your rationalization is quite strained. She did not "[chip away]" at truth or minimize the Holocaust. Carano's intent was oppositie - an attempt to capitalize on the horror, to garner sympathy for herself and her conjured impending doom. Epistemological wriggling cannot evade the fact that her statement was the opposite of denial. I believe you chose the phrase because it was a handy, popular epithet to throw at someone who annoyed you.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman Affirmation: Your comment was ad hominem. That is why you now call it a "behavior" rather than criticizing the comment itself with precision for its overwrought lamentation. Fact remains that she implicitly acknowledged the Holocaust, making no direct comment about its severity. Again, her intent was to exploit its severity - the polar opposite of denial. And that is what makes your argument pious - as if complaining about cultural appropriation.

You just wanted to insult her.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@rysiek @echo_pbreyer I sympathize with your intent. Yet privacy protection is inherently antagonistic to the stated political goal. And contradictions are profound because every purchase has political implications. Money itself is manipulated by an elite cadre of dubious integrity. As an adjunct to speech and a tool of basic free association, regulating its use is fraught.

These considerations make knee-jerk revulsion of cryptocurrency tiresome for me. It ain't a simple problem.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@rysiek @echo_pbreyer it's also worth noting that both forks of ETH persist to this day. And all stakeholders prior to the rollback maintained their interest in both forks. The "cartels" control was ultimately determined by all participants.

We need to get over the idea that voting is a way for us to express our personal ideals. Voting is one move in a chess game that never ends—one each voter plays with a hundred million other voters. You can't win on the first move, and if you're in a bad board position it may take a long time to get out of it. (Narrator voice: we're in a bad board position, in many ways.)

If you don't play, though, or don't make alliances with other players, you're likely to lose. Losing now will be very bad.

Qbitzerre,

Empathy for billionaires is, in fact, a failure of empathy.

Qbitzerre,
@Qbitzerre@unbound.social avatar

@maxleibman Empathy is the capacity to understand a perspective profoundly. Empathy for billionaires might be gratuitous or sycophantic. But it is otherwise useful for reasoning and particularly for manipulation.

Yeah, I get it. This is class warfare, and in war it is popular to dehumanize the enemy. But you know the saying: "Keep your friends close..."
